Any piece of leather on this backpack that gets pushed or pulled on is reinforced with hidden polyester strapping, a rivet, or both. Leather naturally stretches but those straps don't. So, they try to keep the needle holes as far apart from the next one as they can. Low quality companies buy the leather that is the bottom half of the hide that has been split away from the top half with the grain. Retailers should remove the term genuine leather from everything, but they won't, so I will educate you. It just means leather of some type is in the item. It could be that awful bonded leather, just leather pieces and leather dust glued together to make PVC or PU leather. It is like the difference between particle board and solid wood, but worse.
