Over-Engineered

A Leather Gun Sleeve is a vital piece of equipment for any hunter, outdoorsman, sports shooter, or anyone who owns a gun, even for self-protection. But most gun sleeves are made with cheap materials and construction, resulting in a short lifespan. Our Full Grain Leather Gun Sleeve is different. We make our gun sleeves with the same high-quality materials and attention to detail that we put into all of our designs, so you can be sure they will last for years. The Saddleback Leather Gun Sleeve is designed with the largest pieces of full grain leather possible, so there are fewer seams. This gun sleeve is as strong as anything you would carry in it. To protect your firearm, we lined the main body of the leather rifle case with sheepskin (this pulls moisture from your gun). We used only the strongest 316 stainless steel clasps, so they will never rust and can hold up to 750 pounds. We offer a 100-year warranty on this leather gun sleeve, as with most all our designs.

Grab Handles

This updated leather gun sleeve has new grab handles for field carry (nondetachable) and is designed in such a way as to keep the leather rifle cases balanced and level while in transit. It is the sort of thing you want when you go shooting at the range or taking your son to the back 40 to show him how to hunt.

Gun Sleeve Shoulder Strap

The shoulder strap is built extra strong, durable, adjustable, and removable for just-in-case situations. You can use it as a tie-down or hang things. It can be clipped to the top or bottom of the gun sleeve for carrying ease. It has one shoulder pad to allow the leather gun sleeve to carry comfortably on either shoulder. And it attaches to just the right places, so it stays out of your boots when you walk.

Leather Gun Case With an Exterior Pocket

The new exterior pocket with buckle closure is perfect for extra shells, chokes, or other items.

Adjustable Closure Length On This Leather Shotgun Case

The attached opening of this leather gun sleeve is adjustable, depending on the length of your shotgun or rifle, and it fits up to a 28" barrel. Please note that this DOES NOT fit guns with Scopes.

A Leather Rifle Case With No Breakable Parts

There are no breakable parts like zippers, snaps, buttons, velcro, or other Hello Kitty construction. The flap closure is adjustable instead of one size fits all, and the side pocket has ample room for shells and other hunting gear. It was designed around quality, performance, durability, and refined beauty. People will notice this design when you show up at the firing range.

Reinforced Leather Gun Sleeve

Anywhere there could be stress, it receives stitching, then a rivet, and usually, a reinforcing hidden Polyester strap sewn in.

Large Pieces of Full Grain Leather

It is designed with the largest leather pieces possible, so there are fewer seams. Seams are where leather gun sleeves start falling apart, so we designed this with as few as possible.

Stitching

We set our industrial sewing machines to only five stitches per inch, so there's more leather between the needle holes. That's important because a sewing machine is really a perforation machine and if those holes are too close together, then the leather will tear more easily. As a result, this gun sleeve is as strong as anything you would carry in it.

Materials

The materials used in this leather gun sleeve are of the highest quality. The leather is full grain, while the stitching is done with a UV-resistant thread for durability. The sheepskin is the highest quality, and the clasps are surgical grade 316 stainless steel rated for 750 lbs., ensuring that your firearm will be safe and secure while in the sleeve.

Sheepskin Lining in the Best Leather Rifle Case

To protect your firearm, we lined the main body of these leather rifle cases with sheepskin to help protect your investments. Sheepskin wicks moisture away from the gun instead of letting it stay on the gun. God engineered sheepskin pretty well. Did you know that bed-ridden patients with sheepskin sheets don't often get bed sores because there is airflow under them? We DO NOT recommend storing guns in any gun sleeve because there should be some air movement, so the shotgun doesn't rust. But if you had to store it in some gun sleeve, I'd choose this one.

Full Grain Leather Gun Case

Our full grain leather is the strongest and most durable that we can find because it still has the full amount of grain on the leather. Every skin comes with what is called "grain" on the top layer. They are the toughest and most water resistant fibers of the whole hide. But cowhides come thick and usually split in half at the tannery. The top half is the toughest because it has all of the grain still on it, and the bottom half has been neutered. Leather that doesn't have grain on it is called genuine, suede or split leather. If you find a really inexpensive leather gun sleeve, that's why, because it uses cheap material. Removing all of the grain from a leather hide is like removing the shingles from your roof. How stupid is that? And not only is our leather the strongest grade, but it's thicker than boot leather.

Thread to Keep Your Leather Gun Sleeve Together

Not only do we sew this leather gun sleeve with as few seams as possible, but in each of those seams where leather comes together, we sew with a UV resistant continuous filament Polyester thread instead of the inferior and cheap Nylon thread. The good thing about Polyester is that it never deteriorates. The bad thing about Polyester is that it never deteriorates. Polyester will give you a bad night's sleep when it comes to bedding. Polyester clothing will give you skin problems, but when it comes to thread, Polyester will give you a lifetime of service. And we use the thick German double ought thread too.

316 Stainless Steel Because Your Gun Deserves The Best

This is like killing a fly with a shotgun, but we decided to develop our own custom hardware anyways. If you talk to a metallurgist, they'll tell you it's too expensive and just plain overkill, but we have never had an issue with our hardware failing. If your life had to depend on a hardware performing, you'd want it to depend on ours. The clasps that clip onto the body of this leather gun sleeve are rated for 750 lbs.

Free Tips

When you shop for quality, take all of this into account. If you already purchased some cheap brand, check the return policy to see if you can take back your purchase. Otherwise, use it to hold something less important than your gun. Some people buy gun cases based on the price, don't do that; you will end up with some item that will not last. You don't buy the cheapest shotgun because you want to trust it; same with your leather gun cases. And don't forget about our Leather Pistol Case!

Awesome Case - Sizing Information

I love this case, as I do all of my Saddleback bags. The quality and craftsmanship are wonderful, and as someone else mentioned, your fellow shooters love it as well.

I did want to provide some additional information about the sizing. I have a Beretta 688 Sporting B-Fast with 30-inch barrels. With the chokes installed, the shotgun measures 48 inches in overall length.

When placed in the case, the stock extends about 6½ inches past the wool lining. This means that part of the stock sits inside the leather base closing flap. For reference, the wool lining ends at the stitching just below the strap with the Saddleback logo for the base closing flap. Personally, I don't see any issue with this, and after using the case, I believe this is how it was designed to be used.

There are two metal attachments on the base closing flap, near the stock. One is the thickness cinch, which sits a little more than two inches beyond the end of my stock. The other is the buckle rivets, which are much farther away. You can see both in the open-flap photos shown in the product description.

Regarding the peg on the thickness cinch, there is a screw on the inside that could be removed if it were a concern. In my case, once the shotgun is in the case, the peg is well past the base of the fold and completely out of the way. I haven't had any issues with either of these metal pieces, although I'm sure they could be covered if desired.

As another reference for sizing, when I fold the base closing flap over and secure it, the flap ends up in the third hole down from the top of the strap, near the Saddleback logo.

As for the other dimensions, my shotgun clears everything easily. For example, at the base of the stock, I still have 2 or more inches of clearance.

I use this bag every week or two and absolutely love it. Overall, I believe this is a great fit for my shotgun.

Buy It For Life, Get Complimented For Life.

I purchased this item as a Dave's Deal several years ago and shortly after I did, the leather gun sleeve was taken off the website so I wasn't able to give it a proper review. With that being said, this gun sleeve is the best piece of kit I've owned in conjunction with the pistol wraps (the straps on those will loop onto the D-Rings for handle on this sleeve and makes carrying both a breeze). Even though the item I purchased was a DD, the only flaw I could find was a small mark in the leather and that's it. I've used this many times since I've owned it and it has protected my firearms wonderfully and they have taken a tumble with no harm done to my guns. I have an old Browning Auto 5 which fits wonderfully in this as well as several bolt action .22 rifles which also fit quite nicely. The ONLY modern rifle with a pistol grip I was able to fit into this gun sleeve was an FAL and that's because of the aggressive grip angle that rifle has so be aware of that factor when ordering this item. I cannot make any claims as to whether or not scoped rifles will fit in here or not. I can picture a scoped .22 fitting in here but I'm hard pressed to believe anything larger would be able to. All in all, this item is worthy of 5 Stars from me. It's handsome, rugged, does the job incredibly well, and has received many compliments. Buy without reservation and for what it's worth, the color I purchased mine in is Chestnut.

Perfect for cherished heirloom firearms

This gun sleeve is first class all the way. As the product description says, it is not for uber-long barreled firearms (i.e. Goose/Sporting Clays shotguns nor Barrett sniper rifles), nor firearms with mounted optics (i.e. telescopic or holographic sights), nor firearms with pistol grips or fore end grips (i.e. AR/AK style rifles, tactical shotguns, etc.). This magnificent leather gun sleeve is designed to cradle your traditional lever action rifle, bolt action or semi rifle (without optics), or traditional shotgun (i.e. Winchester 870, Mossberg 500, etc. without optics or pistol grips). Read the product description and carefully measure your rifle/shotgun to ensure proper fit. Measure twice (shame on you if you don’t!) then buy once with confidence. When you have this in your hands you’ll likely realize that having just one is not enough!

Awesome

Purchased this for my Henry Classic. Pulling it out of the car at the Range, and the rubber necking started. Then came the Henry Classic 30.30. What a great presentation package. Detail and stitching are old world quality. It now rests in the Liberty Safe, and every time I open the door? Well,,leather, and more leather. Thanks for an awesome case.

Fantastic gun sleeve

I have purchased several saddleback items. The gun wrap is awesome for going to the range. I was in process of savings my pennies and dimes to purchase a gun sleeve and just as I had the funds to buy it, they quit making it. I was so bummed out. I kept looking in hopes they would make it again and was very excited when it became available. I bought it immediately. My dad had purchased one for me years ago and I wanted this one to use and break in before I give it to my son. It is a fantastic piece of equipment. It is refined yet rugged. I love the fact there are no breakable parts. This will be an item I can give my son and he will use proudly his entire life. Great product. Keep up the good work!

I have purchased many saddleback

I have purchased many saddleback products, bags, backbpacks, luggage, and cases. Recently I purchased the gun sleeve for a golden boy 45-70 govt.
As much as I love this gun, the case Dave made is an equal partner of craftsmanship and beauty!
The sheepskin lining is soft and luxurious and the leather is worthy of display. I will be buying more.

Dark Brown Gun Sleeve--Happy Birthday to me!

I bought this a year ago, and use it to store and transport my two favorite hunting guns--a '65 .30-30 Winchester, and a cheap single-shot .410 that's been in my family for three generations, is the perfect field gun, and I wouldn't trade it for love or money... The Saddleback Leather Gun Sleeve is the only case worthy of carrying it.
And like everything from Saddleback, it just gets better looking with age and use.
Pretty sure I'm gonna need another one.

Gun Sleeve

Once again Dave and the crew at Saddleback have come up with a great product. The Gun Sleeve they have come out with is so nice and put together to be around for decades. I was so impressed with the looks and it fits my old lever action rifle like a glove. Next they need to design one to accommodate a scoped rifle. Keep up the great work!
