The Original Leather Magna Carta
In the Year of our Lord 1215, on the 15th day of June, (806 years ago today) the great Magna Carta was written down on one large piece of full grain leather and signed by King John of England. More copies of “The Great Charter” were spread around England for everyone to read, 4 of which still remain. Because they have physically lasted so long, millions more people than just the original readers have enjoyed them. My family and I actually saw an original at Salisbury Cathedral in England 3 days before COVID shut everything down. Little known fact: The tanner of the leather parchment gave the scribe an 800 year warranty, which just recently expired.

Saddleback Leather’s Magna Carta
In the Year of our Lord 2021, on the 15th day of June, Saddleback Leather introduced the Magna Carta, translated from Latin to English, burned into one large piece of leather. They’ll fight over this copy of the Magna Carta when you’re dead and then when your descendant is dead and after their heir and so on. But be sure to write a note to them on the back, or maybe draw a treasure map and start a family legend. Why is the Magna Carta so important?
The extremely significant Magna Carta is the legal foundation upon which the human rights and freedoms we enjoy today were built. It was the first written constitution in European history and what English law was founded upon. In 1776, the American Revolution was justified because colonists believed the Magna Carta gave them freedom from the English Crown. You can see it’s fingerprints all over our Declaration of Independence, Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
