    Outstanding quality

A briefcase that I had for years developed a problem with the handle. I contacted the manufacturer and they would not do anything to repair it without me paying to send it to some place in Florida and then they would tell me how much it would cost to fix it. I then took it to a leather repair place and they wanted over $200 to replace the handles, stain the leather to match the bag and repair some other leather damage to the bag. Disappointed that the prior bag manufacturer (made in the USA) would not take care of the issue, I looked into a briefcase with a lifetime warranty and came across Saddleback. The bag is outstanding. It has surpassed my expectations. Some people make an issue out of the weight, but this bag is only about 2 pounds heavier than my prior briefcase and this one has a shoulder strap to make carrying easier. I guess some folks might have trouble with the bag, but I don't see it as a problem for an adult man to carry. The leather is thick and sturdy. I'm a lawyer the case is formal enough for court and the large size is no problem fitting under a seat on an airplane. Saddleback is a little expensive, but the quality is outstanding the you don't have to worry about what to do if there is a problem in a couple of years like you would with a knockoff brand or briefcase with a year or two warranty.

    a leather energizer bunny!

Hi..Was in the aviation business when I first purchased my Saddleback case like 20 years ago! Once in your hands you will not want to part with it! It has been all over the Americas, the Caribbean, and Mexico with me both on business and pleasure. Construction quality is beyond compare. It has been thrown up into a cargo bay; has fallen from the cargo bay and main entry door of an aircraft onto the tarmac ("ramp" in the av business). It has fallen off luggage carousels, out of taxis, and one time was actually pushed thru and out the other side of a cargo area on a bus, then run over by a motor bike. Result was a bunch of scratches, which after leather treating, gave it a sort of cool, "weathered" look. I am now in the pharma business, and it lugs around my laptop and contract files like a champ. (I pack my laptop in a aviation hard side sleeve for transport, and it fits perfectly into one of the case pockets, in case you were wondering.) Been so long ago I cant remember what I paid for it. Best way to sum it up is that its truly the leather energizer bunny..... it takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin" !!. Will be purchasing another (larger) in the near future.

    Workhorse--and Too Cool

I've had my Classic Briefcase for 10 years and it's perfect. To illustrate how perfect it is, a true story: I'm a writer and just published a collection of short stories. When my editor asked how many stories I wanted to include, I pointed at the briefcase and said, "Enough to fit in old leather over there." The briefcase went on the front cover and the book title became Old Leather. Initially, I bought the medium and used it for a few months until my wife said I looked like a Grizzly Bear carrying a lunchbox so I sold it on ebay for $50 less than I paid for it and then bought a large that fits me perfectly--and I'm a big man. If you're going to use this as just a briefcase and you're under 5'10 and under 200 pounds, the medium is fine except that it'll only handle a 13" computer. If you plan on carrying a larger computer or you plan on using the briefcase as an overnight bag (you can--it's big enough), go for the large. To me, the Extra Large would be like carrying a suitcase, but different strokes, you know. I haven't babied this thing at all and it looks great--beat up but beautiful.

14 months out, would buy it again. Here are my issues

I purchased the Large, Tobacco colored bag 14 months ago. I take the bag to work about 4 days per week and have taken it on several trips. I would buy this bag again without hesitation. Many of the reviews are very positive, and I agree with many of them, but I am going to be more critical. I hope this informs your purchasing decision. I'll start with the problems I have with the bag. -The front panel has started to bend over where it meets the bottom panel. Looking at the picture you can see that the two bottom corners an the floor are very square and you can see the two metal studs. Mine have started to bend over slightly almost to the point where the metal studs rest on the floor. Not a major problem, but I was slightly annoyed. -The strap used to hold keys bounces around when the large compartment is empty. In the fourth picture (XL size) you can see the strap attached to a key ring resting on a shirt. The rolled up shirt in the picture will prevent the strap from bouncing around but when the compartment is empty the strap does not touch the bottom of the bag and bounces around as I walk. I solved this buy tucking to strap into the pocket holding the charger and mouse in picture. -The side pocket meant for water bottles is very small and can only hold the smallest of water bottles. Think cheap plastic bottle from the grocery store. A slender thermos that fits snugly into my car cup holders does not fit in the side pocket. The size is sufficient to bring a laptop with accessories, several folders, a substantial lunch and a change of shoes. When I've traveled I have been able to pack my toiletries and a couple changes of clothes. The strap is comfortable and the handle is sturdy. Both of which are important when the bag is loaded down. The clips that connect the strap to the D-rings is sturdy and easy to operate. The newspaper pocket on the back is amazing. I had some problems with shipping where Saddleback shipped me a moleskin notebook cover instead of the bag. Customer service was helpful and the problem was quickly resolved with minimal work on my part.

    Love it!

I am a woman and I travel almost every week. I was worried that the bag would be too heavy based on all the reviews. The bag is perfect! I purchased the large size and I can fit my laptop, my iPad, work documents, wallet and chargers and still have room. The bag is beautiful (tobacco) and I notice people looking at it as I go through the airport. It's stiff and as I use it more and more I'm looking forward to it being broken in. I watched all the You Tube reviews and glad I didn't buy the smaller version. Thank you Saddleback for makiing such a beautiful product. I'm so glad I made the investment.
