Newest prized possession!
My brother was dying to have this set so I got him one as an early birthday gift. He couldn't stop smiling the whole time he was opening the gift. He loves the pieces and the fact that they come in three leather bags that fits perfectly inside when rolled up. He also absolutely loves the whole design all together. He kept saying he's going to be the coolest one in his chess club now because of this product. Thank you Dave for this design. It warmed my heart to see how much the set made him light up. I haven't seen him THIS happy in a while. Thank you again for allowing my brother and I to share such a moment together. It's his newest prized possession!

Awesome Chess Set
I have purchased two sets so my kids won't fight over them when I'm gone. LOL. The pieces were evidently different designs for each set and the craftsmanship was excellent on both. The board thickness is adequate to lay completely flat when playing. I wish they could make this set with the traditional black and white board and a black carrying strap. This set shows that everyone involved in the production takes pride in what they do. I had to contact the company by email and their customer service is excellent too. They are very meticulous even in the way they package it for shipping.

Just Amazing (as expected)
I have previously purchased a few Saddle Back products for myself, and have always been amazed at the value offered. When I saw this set offered I couldn't help but think of my nephew who is learning chess. After some thinking I purchased a set as one of the Christmas gifts for him. Initially all I did was open the box to remove the packing slip, and then just sealed and wrapped for him. Come Christmas day and he unwrapped the box, and was initially unsure of what was inside the tube. My mother was thinking a gun, and my brother's fiance a telescope. I helped my nephew open up and unwrap the pieces, and everyone was surprised. Once revealed as a chess set everyone was amazed at the quality and uniqueness of this gift. While waiting for the appetizer course (cooked by my brother) to be ready my nephew asked if anyone would play with him on the new set. I was volunteered, and happily complied to play a game despite not having played in over 20 years, and against a computer at that. I thought he was only 8, so how difficult could this be? Well after he easily beat me in less than 10 moves I had my answer. At the end of the day I was schooled by my nephew, but seeing his face light up as he realized that the board made up a bag to contain the pieces made it all worth it. In playing a few games and examining all the pieces quality is just what I have grown to expect. Thank you Dave and everyone else at Saddleback for helping to make a very memorable holiday for my family!

Once again Dave, you did it!!
I am really in love with this Chess Set. From the first time I saw it, I was very happy with the usual Saddleback Leather over engineered quality of this product. When it arrived, my lovely bride and I were on a "teenager free" weekend getaway. This included a trip to a lovely park that had outdoor table areas just made for setting up our new toy. There are so many details that I noticed about the product like the actual grid labeling of the set, the way that the smooth leather lies very flat when unrolled. The thickness of the leather was just right and is not too heavy but feels just durable enough. The way the chess board itself is embossed with the grid means that you are in it for the long term. I cannot see how anyone would need another one for life. The leather grid roll is genius in that it keeps keeps everything together in a lightweight fashion, and allows you to show off the product. The carrying strap is adjustable and very pliable right out of the box. The wooden pieces are solid and well made. Although, if they end up getting lost, somehow, the board itself is so good that it would be worth it to simply find other replacement sets out there and keep the main board. The chess pieces come in a bit of rolled clear packing plastic that was meant to be thrown away. As a result, they rattle around inside of the chess board tube when packed up and make a noticeable rattle. This is the only minor thing that needed to be addressed. This is because when setting up, the pieces tend to get scattered everywhere after the board is unrolled. My genius solution is that I got a couple of custom embroidered Crown Royal bags from the CR company website one for each color. (This is not an advertisement, just a fact.) When they arrived, they fit easily inside of the kit with little additional weight, but a nice bit of class. Since I don't drink, I didn't actually have any empty bags lying around like some folks. :-) P.S. I also recommend carrying around a smallish golf towel inside the rolled up chess set in case a proposed outdoor table needs a quick wipe down. This will keep potential stains away from the board. I will also be ordering a matching tobacco colored name tag to add to this for flair and potential security should it get misplaced.

Just received the set and am thrilled with it. I only will add one wish and that is a small pouch that would hold the pieces rolled up in the set was included.
