What People Think

GREAT BAG!!

Love this bag. Orignally I thought it was going to be too small, but now that the leather is softening up some, it's able to hold everything I need with no issues.

NAILED IT!

What can I say. If we were playing baseball, Dave and the team at Saddleback Leather would be the home run leaders! Beautiful bag, and the craftsmanship is truly second to none!

SUBERB QUALITY

This is my third purchase, and the quality still astounds. It's practical, large enough to fit my MacBook Air plus a leather binder and other smaller items. These products are an investment in style, utility, and the inevitable stream of complements! Never disappoint with Saddleback products.

Design
This slim leather laptop bag was over-engineered without a single breakable part and reinforced with extra stitching, rivets or hidden polyester strips that don't stretch. In some places on the leather briefcase, all three reinforcements are there. Only 3 large pieces of leather make up the body of the laptop bag to minimize the number of stitches in the bag. Each time a sewing needle pokes through the leather, it actually starts a tear. So the fewer holes the better. And we only allow 5 stitch holes per inch for strength. The closer they are in a leather laptop bag, the more like a perforation the line of holes become.

Materials
Leather: We use only thick full-grain leather, which is the highest grade of hide you can buy, to make all of our leather laptop bags. The grain is the toughest and most water-resistant part of the hide and is only on the top part. So when companies sand or split off the top part of the hide (see them split it in our How to Tan Leather video at min. 6:45) to get rid of scars and blemishes so they don't have to cut around them and throw that leather in the trash. That is the equivalent of taking the shingles off of the roof. But they save a lot of money making a leather briefcase. We just cut around them and throw the expensive leather in the trash.

Lining: But if that isn't enough strength, we lined the leather laptop briefcase with pigskin, which is more durable than the full-grain leather.

Thread: And then we sewed it all together with a thick and strong industrial-grade Polyester thread. Polyester is great and evil. It's great because it never decomposes and so holds a leather briefcase together forever. It evil in the form of bedsheets because you don't sleep as well. The reason we go with Polyester instead of Nylon is because nylon deteriorates when the sun hits it and Polyester doesn't. It's really strong.

Hardware: Our 316 Stainless Steel hardware is definitely overkill for a leather briefcase, but I tell you this, you NEVER have problems with your briefcase because of the hardware. If your life needed to depend on a piece of hardware, you'd want it to depend on ours.

Functionality
This thin leather laptop bag is our smallest leather briefcase and wide enough to fit any 13" MacBook Pro or laptop. The 2019 15" Macbook Pro, fits in the main compartment, but not in the soft laptop sleeve pocket inside. Two flatter front pockets to fit a charger, pens, cables, and papers. There aren't a lot of features and functionality, but that's on purpose. It's kind of just a simple briefcase.

Bedtime Story

For The Kids About a Al-Shabaab on Vacation

The last small plane we were on was from Nairobi to Lamu. From there we took a 2 hour small boat ride to an island off the Northern Coast of Kenya, next to Somalia where a Kenyan friend of ours told us was a really super cool place for holiday. We didn't know about all of the Al-Shabaab terrorist activity and kidnappings in the area or we probably wouldn't have chosen it for our family vacation, but ignorance is bliss? The last night there was a little freaky. Okay, a lot freaky hanging out and discussing theology with the witchcraft practicing angel prophet of Islam, but that's for another place and time (or bag description).

So we finally get to our destination called Mike's Camp, run and owned by a British Kenyan named Mike. A charming chap who had made a barefoot luxury Gilligan's Island resort built almost entirely from woven reeds. The walls and floors were 100% woven and the ceilings were thatched. All of it was supported by branches and sticks.

It was SUPER COOL. Unbelievable. And that's why billionaires fly in to stay there all the time. Since we're not billionaires, we flew into Lamu and then took the little skiff to the island, but there are people who fly in at low tide, land on the beach and walk up the sand dunes to the camp. It's where you completely unplug. No laptop bags allowed. To read about the Angel prophet of Islam and our walk through the terrorists, go to the Slim Leather Briefcase page.

Anyways, each of those small plane bush pilots that land on the beach or take people to Lamu, have a smaller flight bag briefcase next to their seat. It's just what you dowhen you need all of your things in one small cramped place.
