Design of the Grandfather Overnight Case

I designed the leather Grandfather Overnight case with a new "cool factor" that separates it from the other cases in the Grandfather Collection. The Overnight Case can be packed in two different ways:

1) You can stand it upright, open the lid from the front side, and stack your clothing or whatever you're traveling with that way. I find this way to be super efficient, as you don't have to dig through the case to find your favorite outfit. It's all stacked up right there in front of you, unlike in a travel bag. This also prevents your clothes from tumbling around and getting wrinkled when you're carrying it.

The Grandfather Overnight Case is a durable, high-quality case perfect for all types of travel. It is made with a custom 316 Stainless Steel and features a super thick thread that is industrial, marine grade, and UV resistant. 2) You can lay it down flat like most conventional suitcases and open the lid up from the top side.

The lid features two really big pockets for extra storage that would make a great place to store charging cables, small carry items, medications, and maybe even hide some money in a pocket so your wife doesn't find it.

The Grandfather Overnight Case is ideal for 2-3 day travel and fits in the carry-on bins if you're flying. Just be aware that people at the airport will ask you where you got it, so be prepared for their envy of your style. See, it's more than a great travel case. It serves double duty as a piece of functional art. You will feel good with this on your shoulder; much better than just a simple leather duffle bag or other overnight bags.

The edges and corners are all hand stitched and all stress points are reinforced with rivets so it won't wear out over time. Doing it this way takes a really long time to make, but they will last at least 100 years.

Saddleback Leather is always committed to quality materials. When I create a design like this leather overnight case, I take into account anything that might fail and make it so it won't. That starts with the best design, continues with the best materials, and ends with solid craftsmanship. That is how we can give a 100 year warranty and know they will fight over it when you're dead.

Leather Our leather Grandfather Overnight Case is designed with real full-grain leather, and it's really thick. Most (low level) companies sand off the grain (the toughest, most water-resistant part of the leather hide) to get rid of scars and marks so they can use the entire hide to make bags. This is part of what allows them to sell cheap leather. What we do is just cut around the ugly parts and throw most of that leather away. Pay attention to the type of leather; always stick to full grain leather when shopping for quality.

Lining We lined the leather Overnight Case with pigskin, which is stronger and more durable than the cow skin. It's also somewhat soft and smooth to touch, so it will protect any valuables from scratches and other damage.

Hardware One of the coolest materials we use is our custom 316 Stainless Steel. It's a fun one to research; look it up on Google. It can hold up to 750 lbs. So if your life is depending on something, you're going to want it to depend on this metal.

Thread Our super thick thread is incredibly strong industrial, marine grade, UV resistant polyester. It doesn't deteriorate in the sun. I really wish more designers would use it.

Better Than an Overnight Bag

    My Saddleback collection is growing. I thought the Grandfather Overnight Case seemed cool and quirky enough to give it a go. It is really well thought out. I have been startled by how much it holds, and the ease with which it packs/unpacks. It's like a mini-dresser. Certainly attracts quite a few eyeballs, not the least of which are my own.     Grandfather’s Portable Wardrobe

    I’m simply blown away with this piece of excellence! Before I ordered this, I naively thought that the stacking option is ’just neat’ but I had no idea how absolutely and incredibly practical it truely is!!! Can’t stress it enough! There is just no other way to do it anymore. All items are so easy to see and then pick whatever you want from the stack without disturbing the rest. The size of the stackable part is perfect too. It takes thicker clothes with ease as well. And it fits way, way, WAY more than you initially think! Same with the inner pouches that are relatively just as spacious. It truely is a portable wardrobe. Since my girlfriend does her own beeswax-based leather care products, the first thing I did was prepping, relaxing and nourishing everything a bit by applying her secret recipe, and after that, it was like it’s always been here. Been using it for about a week now and it just has so many sides to it. The somewhat quirky form factor with the usual SBL bravado, details and craftmanship sure catches attention to say the least but the main thing for me is the fact that it is such an ultra functional piece of art. It feels very good on many levels and it’s easier to carry than one might think. I have pretty broad shoulders, so the balance while carrying is spot on. No strain, no nothing. For my next trip abroad, I’ll take this and my trusty Doctor’s Overnight Bag with me and they should cover at least a week with ease. I’d even dare to say two weeks. So, thank you once again and the delivery to Finland was suprisingly fast as well - Especially considering the state of international logistics nowadays.
