316 Stainless Steel Hardware
Our Custom Hardware is very expensive and far more durable than even brass. The idea behind using such a super hardware was to eliminate any problem that could ever arise over the next 100 years due to faulty hardware.
The Strength of our 316 Stainless Steel is impressive. Our large clips and buckles are rated to hold up to 750 lbs. Thought you should know that just in case you need to depend on it in an emergency.
Corrosion Resistance is one of Stainless Steel 316’s greatest features and that’s because of its secret sauce ingredients of Molybdenum and Chromium. They dramatically improve resistance to saltwater, coastal air, chlorides and other corrosive chemicals.
Crack Resistance was chosen over surface hardness and that’s why everyone uses it for industrial marine applications. It is rated at a whopping 91 on the Rockwell Hardness Scale, but its relatively low hardness is by design. Hard hard metals are great for knives and swords that need a sharp edge, but they tend to crack if they are too hard.
Toughness is what Stainless 316 is known for. It’s called Ductility. It is a material’s ability to stretch and deform without snapping. The high percentage of Nickel added to the recipe causes the atoms to stack in such a way that layers slide past each other easily. It’s just tough.
