Tan full grain leather briefcase by Saddleback.

Functionality of a Leather Briefcase Backpack

Most of our leather briefcases convert into backpacks, including this one. Run the adjustable shoulder strap through the o-ring on the back of the briefcase, and clip it to the d-rings on the bottom. Now your hands are free to carry more luggage through the airport. This leather briefcase has a false bottom to hide your passport, spare cash, and other secret things. The d-rings are great for strapping on blankets, jackets, and wet sandals. And the main strap has a hole at the very tip, just in case you overstuff your bag or want to put an umbrella under the flap. The two front pockets actually have hidden pockets behind them too.

Materials in Our Leather Briefcases

This leather briefcase is made of full grain leather, which is the strongest there is. And then, we line the leather with pigskin, which is more durable than cow skin. Our thread is some of the best in the world. The strong industrial marine-grade polyester thread doesn't deteriorate like Nylon when the sun touches it. Our custom hardware is 316 Stainless Steel which means our clasps can hold up to a 750 lb. bag of cats. It's the metal of choice for when your life depends on it.

High quality leather briefcase.

All of Our Bags Use Full Grain Leather

We only use full grain leather. Sure, we pay a higher price to purchase full grain leather to make our bags. And we pay more by using traditional craftsmanship. To us, these are essentials to offering a leather briefcase with a 100 year warranty. Leather is like a roof. First, there is plywood, tar paper, and then shingles. The grain is like shingles. It's the toughest and most water-resistant part of the leather. A lot of companies shave off that grain to get rid of scars or blemishes so they can use more of the hide, but by doing so, they get rid of the toughest part. We don't do that.

Leather Briefcases Lined with Pigskin

Did you know pigskin is actually stronger than cowhide? It is, and that's what we line our leather briefcases with. Not only is it stronger, but it is also more flexible and has a nice feel. We could have left it with just thick full grain leather, but we wanted to give you the best of the best. By using both, you get the best for the inside and the outside of this large leather briefcase.

The Hardware in our Leather Briefcases

The hardware on this backpack briefcase is all 316 Surgical Grade Stainless Steel. That's the good stuff. The kind that doesn't corrode, pit, or rust like other metals. It's the best for when your life depends on it, and it's what we use because your life could depend on this briefcase (ya never know, right?).

Polyester, Great for Strong Thread in Leather Bags, but Not Great for Underwear

Polyester is awful for underwear or sheets, but it is the best for thread. We found the strongest polyester thread and used it in our leather bags. It's a marine-grade, UV resistent polyester thread that doesn't deteriorate when sun hits it.

Internal Pockets

Two small internal pockets are located in the main compartment, which is great for holding things such as pens, pencils, and other things that you might put in small pockets. The internal compartment is split into two main areas with a large capacity to hold a large laptop or two. So you can fit that huge 17" laptop in here without a problem.

External Pockets that Mean Business

The two front pockets on this briefcase are large and ideal for holding chargers and cables, passports and travel docs, phones, glasses, and a multitool. And behind each external pocket, you've got a hidden pocket. These pockets are great for things you might access more often, such as a cell phone or a USB hub, depending on how secure you need it to be and your own packing method.

Hidden Compartment in this Leather Briefcase

Yes, this briefcase has a hidden compartment that is large enough to fit a passport. It is located on the bottom of the leather bag and can be easily accessed by lifting a strip of leather. You will see it right away. The false bottom is great for hiding things such as money, your passport, or anything else you might not want anyone to find.

Leather briefcase with cigar holder.

Emergency Cigar Holder

When I tell you we thought of everything, we did. In between the front pockets is a pocket that is good for carrying a cigar, a flashlight, pens or pencils, or Epi pens.

Leather briefcase with removable shoulder strap.

Removable Shoulder Straps

Not everyone wants a shoulder strap; they might prefer the hand strap or the backpack feature, so we made it removable. The durable shoulder strap is also made of full grain leather, just like our leather bags, and has the same quality stainless steel hardware.

Great for Traveling

It is also functional as a great carry-on for short trips or long trips. You can fit your large laptop and maybe even a change of clothes and other gear. For example, you might not want to put your suit jacket inside, but an extra t-shirt and shorts to wear. The Front Pocket Leather Briefcase fits nicely under seats on the airplane.

    Front Pocket Leather Briefcase

Just unpacked my goodie bag in Abu Dhabi. The main item was the front pocket leather briefcase. After a lengthy spell of indecision between the various briefcases and colors, I took the plunge to replace my tattered Mont Blanc leather briefcase. The first thing that struck by opening the package, was the care in wrapping and boxing the products acquired (the personal Leather birthday card was a nice touch!). Opening the plastic bag, I was immediately overwhelmed by the smell of great leather - wow! What can I say about the quality that hasn't been said by countless customers before. It's great - the quality of the leather, the buttery softness of the pigskin, the minute details of the stitching, carrying flexibility (the standard carrying handle is perfect ergonomically) and enough storage space, without being clumsy. I do have one critical comment: Saddleback Leather require better copywriters - your current one's do not do justice to your products (ok, that's tongue in cheek) One recommendation: the little leather patches will be great as fridge magnets! (You can send me the first one) I guess I will be frequent client ....... keep up the great work.

    This IS a Saddleback!

Eight years ago, I was in the market for a new briefcase. I was at a stage in my career that I wanted this one to be a good quality leather briefcase. I must have scoured the internet for months, looking for the ideal bag and bookmarking several companies and retail sellers. In all that search, I was never able to feel comfortable enough to pull the trigger on a purchase. I remember reading the reviews of various bags, and if I read one review of a leather bag, I read many of them with this similar phrase: "It's a nice bag but it's not a Saddleback." As my search to find out what this "Saddleback" was all about, I came upon their website. I felt like a kid getting the Sears Christmas catalogue out of the mailbox excited to see all the new toys out for the year! I read about all the bags, how they were engineered, how they were made, and I watched the videos that Dave had produced. I knew then that this was the bag that I was looking for. I ordered the FPBC in Tobacco and it has been my EDC ever since. It has held up well, rugged looking as the day I received it and has developed a wonderful patina. So I purchased this bag once again, but this time as a gift for a dear friend who, a couple years ago, had acquired, what I would call, a "Saddleback" knock-off. During that time, watching him use his bag as an EDC and hearing his disappointment when a strap broke or hardware malfunctioned or when a seam became loose, I couldn't help but say to myself, "Yeah, it's NOT a Saddleback." So when the 20th Anniversary sale happened, I took this as an opportunity to buy this for my friend. Even if he is just half a satisfied as I am with mine, he will be blessed by the use it.

Front Pocket Briefcase - 8 Years in

This bag just keeps getting better. I am in construction and my briefcase takes a beating. I use one end pocket for glasses case and the other for small tools (flashlight, knife & leatherman) The interior of the bag holds an IPad, notebook & laptop on one side and the other side is for my cord bag and random other items. The two front pockets are for all the random stuff you need to carry and they hold a ton. The bag is unending, at some point you just realize that this bag will in fact outlast me. I have been using (beating) this bag for 8 years and it just looks better! I know these are expensive, but do not hesitate. I love this bag, every couple of years I use the cleaner and leather milk on it and that’s it. It has been wet, smashed, dragged, and left outside. I actually left it in the bed of my truck for a full day in the rain, it didn’t care and my laptop was actually DRY! These are the real deal, they dont wear out, they just get better.

The last breifcase you will ever buy

Ive only owned this for a week, but I can see that it will outlast the 100 Year Warranty. Its true, They will fight over it after your dead. I have probably spent twice as much buying average briefcases every 2-3 years over the last two decades. That stops now, This is the last briefcase I will ever buy. Im looking forward to buying a travel Duffel

My Saddleback was stolen so I purchased another brand. Big Mistake

So my large front pocket leather briefcase was a celebratory purchase I made a couple of years ago. I had just found out my book hit #1 on Amazon, I had just sold a business for a client and I had just gotten married. It was a busy year. My gift to myself was a Saddleback. That bag had been everywhere with me and many times people would stop and ask if it was a Saddleback or they would stop and compare stories about their Saddleback. Then about two months ago my car had it's window smashed out and my bag was stolen. My insurance was going to replace the bag and I decided to replace my Saddleback with another equally priced brand that seemed to be a decent product too. Wow, was I wrong. Within four weeks of getting the bag the leather was already starting to have unrepairable damage, the hardware holding the handle was starting to bend and the front clasps were getting so bad I have now stopped closing the bag all together because it is so hard to get open again. If you are thinking of buying a bag other than a Saddleback think long and hard. My new bag is already junk while my Saddleback is in some thief's house and his family is going to fight over it when he's dead.
