The Beast Leather Duffle Bag is a Trunk for your SUV

What People Think

So THAT'S why they call it the beast!

This bag is big. I am 181cm tall (5'11") and this bag, sitting on its end, reaches my waist. think football (soccer) kit bag and you are in the right area. that being said, it is extremely well constructed, its strapping and handles aiding it in keeping its shape when you are lugging around your stuff.

I did have high expectations of this bag, both through the reviews and Dave's videos, and higher anticipation after the item had been out of stock for a while, but I must say it exceeds them all. As I live out of a bag (initially a 100litre rucksack, then a SBL side pocket duffel), this will be a constant companion, with enough space for my restaurant and party clothes (YAY), my work clothes (Hmm...) and my gym gear (wait a minute! what?). It is one big bucket of a bag, so some internal organisation will be needed for used sports kit etc, but that is not a problem in the slightest.

As the bag is made with only 4 pieces of leather, there are some character marks(a few lines), however I am of the same mind as Dave et al on this - it lends itself to a more interesting bag. If the marks denoted any weakness, I am sure that it would not pass the quality test. This is on the tobacco coloured version - I imagine that the other styles will have such minor elements removed.

The only thing that I am not immediately over the moon with is the strap handles/shoulder pads. this is simply because they are still new and it will take some time to soften them down such that the grip is comfortable when carrying heavier loads (it is far from uncomfortable as it is, but I had to pick on something now, didn't I? ;-) ).

I have only had it outside a few times, but already several comments on it - be prepared to be social if you have one of these!.

Great job Guys!

Perfect big piece of luggage

My wife bought me the Beast just over a year ago I think in part to humor me and my keen interest/obsession with SBL - never actually expecting I'd make good on my claims to actually travel with it. Since then it's accompanied us to China, BC, Honduras, Iceland, Greenland, Maine and Italy. It's remarkably light empty (no frame, wheels or gadgets) but fills and weighs up quickly. Leather tightening straps allow a compression sack-esque ability to minimize volume. The twin shoulder straps work OK for long walks but I find I spend 90% of my transfers and transitions slinging the massive beast over one shoulder duffel-style. 50lb on one shoulder seems to work fine on my 6'3' frame but all of the helpful people at airports and hotels tend have a hard time. I make an effort to do all of the bag handling. Beautiful functional piece of luggage if your'e big enough to carry it. Never buying another piece of large luggage again. We place bets not on if, but on how much time it will take before someone makes a compliment at the airport.

Dave is losing it ....

OK, I just got a Beast from Dave's Deals....and I have looked from top to bottom...inside and out and can not find the reason that Dave made this 15% off. (But thanks a ton!) It is as good as I thought and all of the other items that I have from Saddleback. My last suit case broke just figured that if it only lasted 1.5 years then this will pay for itself in about 6 years!

As for the bag it is off to Jordan in a bit....then it will be scuba diving in Jamaica.....more to follow ....Thanks Dave!

BEASTLY

I received my Beast yesterday afternoon after eying Dave's Deals for the past six months to see if it would show up. It is everything I expected and more! Amazing quality (as always), will no doubt work fantastically on my annual summer trips to southern Africa, and will definitely fit everything I will need plus some.

Overall, amazing duffel, can't wait to wear it in!

It's a monster

This thing is aptly named. My beast is dark coffee brown. We have two daughters and when we go on vacation we were always lugging tons of bags, so I ordered a beast with the goal of getting down to one bag. The bag itself is massive. On our next family vacation, everything fit into one bag, which posed a few new challenges I wasn't prepared for. One was the weight of the bag...it was easily 40-50 pounds. The bag itself didn't even sweat. No fear of it breaking, tearing, etc, its built like a tank. I'd suggest a hand cart. The second challenge was also in relation to size. We pretty much live out of our bag and don't put our stuff in drawers. It was tough finding everyone's clothes since they were all piled into essentially a big trunk without compartments. . If you're an unpacker, this is the bag for you. If you're like us, you'd be better off with a suitcase or duffel bag or two with more compartments. Pick the right bag for your lifestyle. The other thing is people will want to talk about to you about your bag. I got a handful of "nice bag!" comments and even one guy nodding and smiling "saddleback?" This is not the bag for you if you just want to be left alone. It's perhaps the manliest of man bags.

The Beast Leather Duffle Bag is a durable and functional bag made of premium leather, designed for travelers.

Product Details

100-Year Warranty

Large pocket on each inside end.

Dimensions (W x H x D)

34" x 14" x 15"

Weight: 12 lbs

These large leather duffle bags mean business. This bag was built to last, from the tough full grain leather to the heavy-duty 316-grade stainless steel hardware. Perfect for the traveler who wants durability and functionality in a stylish premium leather bag, this large leather duffel bag is for you. This durable duffle bag features large interior pockets on each inside end, a very large main compartment, and a 100-year warranty. With dimensions of 34" x 14" x 15", the Beast Leather Duffle Bag is large enough for 1 person for 14 days, 2 people for 7 days, or 4 people for 4 days.

Design of this Large Leather Duffle Bag

These big leather duffle bags were designed for the Munson family. When we travel to Africa or other faraway places, we usually take four of these leather duffle bags, two leather suitcases, and two cheap-o suitcases that we fill full of clothes and leave there, for our luggage.

It is plain and simple with no breakable parts like zippers, wheels, snaps, or buttons and built with as few seams as possible because seams are where all duffle bags start falling apart. Therefore, there are only two really big pieces of leather with a solid piece sewn on each end of this travel bag. And we sew the leather at only 5 stitches per inch, so there's more leather between the needle holes and fewer holes to start a tear.

The sewing machine is a perforation machine if the stitches are too close together. And every part that gets stress is reinforced at stress points with rivets and hidden polyester straps. Polyester is good and bad. The good part is that it lasts forever. The bad part is that it lasts forever and never decomposes. Polyester bedding makes you sleep bad. Polyester straps make your leather duffle bag last really long.

Materials

Cows are waterproof, right? It's because the top part of their hide has tightly woven together fibers. So the skin still has all of the grain (Full Grain Leather). No scars have been shaved or sanded off to leave only a little bit of the grain there (Top Grain Leather). Therefore, it's the strongest cow leather there is, and that's what we use. And we use thick full-grain. It's then lined with pigskin, which is tougher than cowskin. This pigskin lining adds incredible strength combined with the cowskin. Our custom 316 Stainless Steel hardware is amazing (please, please google it). It's the metal of choice when your life depends on it. The thread is strangely strong industrial marine grade UV resistant polyester thread. And thick. No other leather duffle bag will last as long as this one.

Functionality

I designed it to be versatile. Buckled smaller at the first hole to be smaller or expanded way out jam-packed, buckled at the last hole. The dimensions are ideal to be able to fill it up and be around a 50 lb. limit. You could fit a dead body in it, like a deer or wild hog or something. This beast of a leather duffle bag is for big travel where a lesser man's luggage just won't do. I know you could get one with wheels (that will soon break), but why? Get this and add a little exercise to your day. Seriously, don't be afraid of using your muscles. It's good for you.

Leather Bags Made To Last

We design and make our leather duffle bags to last. From the quality material to the craftsmanship, we put our best into everything we make. So if you are looking for a leather overnight bag with an adjustable shoulder strap, a leather weekender bag, or a large duffle bag like this one, we make them. Not good quality, but great quality travel bags are from Saddleback Leather Co. You will love carrying our high quality leather bags.
