Read MoreI designed the Large Leather Moleskine Cover to be the most versatile and functional planner and leather journal cover you'll be able to find. It fits a wide array of planners and journals including A5 Moleskine, Hobonichi Techo, Leuchtturm1917, Rhodia, JSTORY, Rotetunner or whatever your favorite A5 planner journal is, up to 7.5" wide and 9.75" tall.

Not all leather Moleskine covers are equal. We only use full grain leather. It is the best anyone can buy. The grain makes up the top layer of the leather just as shingles make up the top layer of the roof. Some places buy leather that has had the top layer, with all of it's scars, shaved or split off (split leather). It's much much cheaper, but it's like having a roof without shingles. Full grain leather patinas nicely because it still has the pores. The fibers are super dense and tightly woven so it's super strong and highly resistant to tearing and normal wear and tear. It just ages nicely. Top grain is when most of the grain is removed to get rid of scars. That leather does not age well either.
---
We line it with strong pigskin, which is stronger than the cowskin. With those two together, it is far stronger than any fabric or synthetic lined leather Moleskine cover.
---
Your leather planner cover is only as good as the weakest link and so that is usually the thread. Nylon thread deteriorates with UV rays from the sun, but we use a very expensive premium marine-grade thread like they use for parachutes and ships' sails. It'll hold together.

This is a beautiful and appealing item. My composition notebook fits in it perfectly. I’ve been looking for this exact thing for a long time with one exception: The design makes it impossible to write in my notebook. The leather that holds the cover in place is only half the size of the notebook and creates a big lump under my page. There is a huge and abrupt change in elevation on my page caused by the leather that holds the cover in place. This is literally a cliff. As I am writing I have to figure out how to skip past this bump. When there are many pages between my page and the bump its like writing uphill and I have to adjust for the difference in page elevation; however, as I get down to very few sheets my pen starts to poke a hole in the hollow created by the leather. To make matters worse this doesn’t only happen in the top to bottom positions but the leather which creates the half pocket also causes this type of problem in the left to right orientation. The further I get into this review the more disgusted I get with this design. I have already used the notepad holder for a few days and so I can’t return it. Had I realized this issue when it arrived I would have sent it back. I have this same problem to a smaller degree with the medium moleskin holder but the leather that holds the cover in place on that piece is much thinner and impacts the writing surface a lot less. I still poke through the paper as I get down to a few sheets but I don’t have the giant cliff/crevasse/mountain to overcome when there are more sheets between me and the cover holder. The medium moleskin gets 4.5 stars. I think the portfolio would have been the better product.

This is a great moleskine cover! Its the perfect size for when the other sizes just won’t do! It is so goo I’m buying others for Christmas presents.

Quality leather cover, but journal options that fit are extremely limited. Only hardcover journal that it fits is Moleskine XL, which has fewer pages than I like. Leuchtturm 1917 line is a no-go (A5 pictured below) except for a softcover version. Also, leather pen loop is too small and too tight to accept any pen I use (also pictured). Bottom line, looks great, but I wouldn’t buy again.

This Moleskine cover is exceptionally strong, durable, and well-made. I was able to cover a composition book rather than a Moleskine without any issues. You can use it for either notebook, I guess! As always, happy with my SBL purchase! Recommended.
