Product Overview

Design
I designed the Large Leather Moleskine Cover to be the most versatile and functional planner and leather journal cover you’ll be able to find. It fits a wide array of planners and journals including A5 Moleskine, Hobonichi Techo, Leuchtturm1917, Rhodia, JSTORY, Rotetunner or whatever your favorite A5 planner journal is, up to 7.5” wide and 9.75” tall.

Leather
Not all leather Moleskine covers are equal. We only use full grain leather. It is the best anyone can buy. The grain makes up the top layer of the leather just as shingles make up the top layer of the roof. Some places buy leather that has had the top layer, with all of it's scars, shaved or split off (split leather). It's much much cheaper, but it's like having a roof without shingles. Full grain leather patinas nicely because it still has the pores. The fibers are super dense and tightly woven so it's super strong and highly resistant to tearing and normal wear and tear. It just ages nicely. Top grain is when most of the grain is removed to get rid of scars. That leather does not age well either.

Lining
We line it with strong pigskin, which is stronger than the cowskin. With those two together, it is far stronger than any fabric or synthetic lined leather Moleskine cover.

Thread
Your leather planner cover is only as good as the weakest link and so that is usually the thread. Nylon thread deteriorates with UV rays from the sun, but we use a very expensive premium marine-grade thread like they use for parachutes and ships' sails. It'll hold together.

I just got a new regret, and I don’t have very many. My giant list of huge screw ups have made me a better man, but this one I regret. About two weeks ago, I got the chance to sit down and ask the chief leather engineer of a German automotive tannery near our factory all the things I didn’t know about automotive leather, but I didn’t take any notes in my journal. I took them on a pad of paper out of my trusty Leather Portfolio and I’m kicking myself now.

I wish I had our new Large Leather Moleskine (or Leuchtturm1917) cover with me. I geeked out and took five full pages of notes that I wish I would have put in a permanent place. I’m going to be reupholstering my old 1977 FJ55 Toyota Land Cruiser pretty soon, the 2006 Toyota Tundra company pick up truck and our factory Toyota Hilux pick up. It’s really a cool work truck, but has cloth seats. So I needed to know all there was to know about automotive leather. I’ve been thinking about these seats ever since I upholstered my old 1984 Land Rover Defender. That came out cool, but I’m shooting for these seats to be the coolest leather seats the world has ever known.

I tell you this because if you’re a note taker, you really should take notes in a quality journal with a quality cover on it. The two best ones I’ve heard of are Leuchtturm1917 and Moleskine, but they both use a higher grade of paper that doesn’t bleed through much and doesn’t yellow over time. And we have a cover, now, not just for the Medium size but for the larger size too. Check them out.

    Awesome larger leather moleskine cover

The large Moleskine is something I asked for about 5 months ago, and here it is. It is perfect sized to hold a proper 7 x 10 inch notebook as well as the large iPad. Fits nicely in any briefcase, backpack or tote bag. Added touch is the pen holder on the side. I would strongly recommend this product to anyone who conducts business or would just like a nice product to house a journal.

    Beautiful Moleskin cover

Perfect moleskin leather cover. Incredibly made and fits notebook like a glove. Very classy and elegant looking. A plus is that it’s not too heavy. Fits in my EDC bags easily.

    Always exceeding expectations

I don’t know why I leave reviews for Saddleback - not enough stars to rate their products, OR their people. The new Large Leather Moleskine Cover is another tremendous product. The fit and functionality of it is so well thought out and it exceeds expectations, as usual. Do yourself a favor and get one…or more ;)

I've owned 5 of your products

I love your products! I wish I could customize the exact notebook holder I'd like.....the Large Leather Moleskin comes very close. would rather have the older tobacco leather.... I have a small notebook holder....I have to cut the moleskin calendar insert....The Leather on that small notebook is awesome....and my new Large leather Moleskin leather is different ....and I like the older version of the tobacco brown leather better....also I would rather have my initials on the top right vs the bottom left....Thanks for asking for my opinion!

This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for...

I've been waiting for this to be released for at least 4 years, and it's better than I could have imagined.

I've used many different Moleskine sizes (and subsequently, both SBL Moleskine cover sizes!), but I landed on the XL hardback Moleskine 4 years ago as my EDC for work and for home/church. I knew the only downside was that I wouldn't have an SBL cover for my notebook.

Now that I have it (it's only been 24 hrs!), I can say it's perfect. I tuck both sides of the Moleskine into the cover, but you could easily just use one side for your notebook, and the other for an iPad or other notes. There are smaller pockets on the interior flaps, too, which will come in really handy.

I love that this version has a pen holder, too - it was always one of my biggest desires with other covers. My Zebra F-701 pen fits perfectly, and I'm sure most pens would fit well.

If you're thinking about it, just go ahead and pick this one up (I probably should have just gotten DCB, too, while I was at it). You won't regret it!
