Design

I designed the Large Leather Moleskine Cover to be the most versatile and functional planner and leather journal cover you'll be able to find. It fits a wide array of planners and journals including A5 Moleskine, Hobonichi Techo, Leuchtturm1917, Rhodia, JSTORY, Rotetunner or whatever your favorite A5 planner journal is, up to 7.5" wide and 9.75" tall.

MATERIALS

  • Full Grain Leather
  • Pigskin Lining

Leather

Not all leather Moleskine covers are equal. We only use full grain leather. It is the best anyone can buy. The grain makes up the top layer of the leather just as shingles make up the top layer of the roof. Some places buy leather that has had the top layer, with all of it's scars, shaved or split off (split leather). It's much much cheaper, but it's like having a roof without shingles. Full grain leather patinas nicely because it still has the pores. The fibers are super dense and tightly woven so it's super strong and highly resistant to tearing and normal wear and tear. It just ages nicely. Top grain is when most of the grain is removed to get rid of scars. That leather does not age well either.

Lining

We line it with strong pigskin, which is stronger than the cowskin. With those two together, it is far stronger than any fabric or synthetic lined leather Moleskine cover.

Thread

Your leather planner cover is only as good as the weakest link and so that is usually the thread. Nylon thread deteriorates with UV rays from the sun, but we use a very expensive premium marine-grade thread like they use for parachutes and ships' sails. It'll hold together.

    Large Moleskine Cover - Old Design

    Minor updates on the new one seen here. I recently bought this as a 'thinning the herd' piece and could not be happier. I have been keeping an annual calendar for years and this is a perfect fit. Retired now but with more things on my plate than ever, this is an attractive and useful addition to my daily life. Bravo, Dave!

    Disappointed

    I have been a Saddleback fan for many years. I was very surprised and disappointed in this Moleskine cover. The leather is super soft and flimsy, there is no firmness to this (compared to my medium notepad holder which I love). It does not hold the journal well. The flap on the right side to hold the journal is almost useless. Should be much larger and stiffer to hold it in place. Thought about returning it but it was a gift. I have a Moleskine planner/journal and guess I will just look for an alternative that fits better.

    Nice leather cover for my notebook/s but....

    I liked my first Large Leather Moleskine Cover so I came back to buy another different color. I had my initials put on both. My only pet-peeve is the inconsistency of placement of my initials. .One Moleskine cover has my initials on the upper right-hand side. My other Moleskine cover has my initials on the lower left-hand side. I noticed on the website you don't have a choice where the customer would like their initials placed, perhaps this would be a good idea. So now I have two large leather Moleskines Covers with mismatched initial placement. I think it would look more professional if they were both in the same place. By the way, what is the "Standard" placement of the customer's initials on the Large Leather Moleskine Cover? It's a nice product and does the job, but it would have been nice to have a "Choice" of the location of my initials. I would upload the two photos so you can see what I mean but there is no way to upload photos here on this review. Angel from The Bay

    Great Day Planner Cover

    Was another Saddleback hit! I purchased this for a girlfriend who lives by her appointment book. She found the perfect sized day planner to fit inside and the book rarely leaves her side.
