Read MoreThe high-quality materials used in this leather portfolio make it worth the investment. The full grain leather is extremely tough and water-resistant, while the pigskin lining is even stronger than the cowhide used for the outer layer. The German industrial marine grade polyester thread is extremely durable and resistant to wear and tear. The stitching is done in such a way that avoids any damage or tearing to the leather. Think about the number of great first impressions you'll make carrying this portfolio.
---Imagine the cow is killed and skinned. Imagine that... Now the thick hide goes to the tannery, but it's so thick that the tannery splits it in half, the top from the bottom, and now has two hides to sell. The top hide has all of the grain on it (Full Grain). All of the real tough and water resistant dense fibers. Grain is to a hide of leather what shingles are to a roof. Leather portfolios and padfolios made with this leather will last at least a few generations. And we use thick full grain leather. Thicker than boot leather.
---The bottom half is a hide called Split or Genuine leather. It dries out quickly and stains easily because the protective layer of grain is gone. Low quality leather padfolio makers will stick some lipstick on that leather and sell you a nice and pretty leather portfolio tomorrow.
---We glue and sew pigskin lining to the back of that already tough full grain leather. And pigskin is stronger than cowskin. This makes our leather portfolios twice as strong as a typical full grain leather portfolio.
---We sew our leather portfolio with an extremely strong German industrial marine grade polyester that won't fall apart or wear away easily. They use this German thread when it just has to last, or someone could die, like for parachutes and sails on ships. And our thread for the padfolio is the thick double ought version.
---A sewing machine is actually a perforation machine. If the needle holes are too close together, then the leather of the portfolio will tear like a perforated piece of paper. So, we sew at no more than five stitches per inch, which gets the holes further apart from each other on the padfolio.
---The side that holds the paper is only sewn on the right and bottom sides of the portfolio. It's designed to slide in a typical 8 ½ x 11 letter size, European A4 notepad from above or a spiral notebook from the side since that flap is sewn only on two sides.
---This leather portfolio is built with just one solid piece of leather to reduce seams. This is because seams are where, if there's going to be a problem, it will begin there. Yes, we took every detail into account to make this sleek notebook holder perfect.
Huge fan here. Have a few SB products. Never been let down until now. Just like most of you, I rely heavily on these reviews since this stuff is expensive. I bought this Medium Notepad Holder in Tobacco to compliment my Large Classic Briefcase. After six months, my briefcase still has a beautiful leather aroma. I love everything about it. I even remember the joyous feeling I had while unboxing and just laying into it with all my senses. But this thing.. It smells toxic. You could catch a buzz off of it. Wreaks of glue/plastic. It's nauseating. You literally smell it from 3 feet away when swung open. Not sure I even want to put it in my briefcase. So disappointing. I was originally going to buy the iPad pro case but forget it. Those reviews are horrendous. Thought I'd go this route and just throw the iPad in it to run from office to conference and back. For that purpose, it'll work great. I personally love the thickness and overall functionality. The pockets are tight but I'll stretch them to my needs/liking. Plus I can put the apple pencil in it. Just barely snug enough though. I can see this loop stretching ever so slightly to the point that the pencil will no longer hold. But for now. One star for smell, five stars for quality. What's up, Dave?

I own the small notepad holder and liked it so much that I ordered the large one as well. The small notepad holder fits perfectly in my Love 41 Leather mini tote standing upright. The quality of the holder is outstanding. Mine gets thrown around often and holds it shape well. It is thick and sturdy but doesn't feel bulky. Excellent construction. I purchased one as a gift for my son.

So I'm meeting with clients the other day in the Board Room and was taking notes on a 8 1/2 x 11 note pad, you know, the yellow ones. And I got to thinking that I'm helping people buying and/or selling their house and here I am looking very tacky with a plain Jane note pad. So I thought to myself, "Self, how would Dave handle this situation?". So off to Saddleback "Makes you look good" Leather to solve the riddle and this is what I found. I bought both sizes of note pad so I'd be ready for any situation. My first client meeting with the new pad was today and the first thing the client said was "Wow, that's neat. Where'd you get that?". So for the next 5 minutes we talked SL. I figure I'll get other compliments as well. They are both of the highest quality, have versatile slots and holders and are just really neat! My 13 year old son is already plotting my demise as he's already asked me when he can have it! I told him in maybe 40-50 years to come see me! So drop everything and head on over to Saddleback and pick up a handful or two. Now I just need one or two of those cool copper pens to go with them! Highly recommended by me and clients alike. 5 Stars

I purchased the small size and the first thing I noticed when I opened this notebook was how comfortable it felt in my hands. The weight is not too heavy and the size is perfect for grab and go.. OR even to stuff into my Saddleback briefcase. Bought this on a Dave's Deals in Chestnut and still can't find why it was discounted. Maybe some extra scarring on the hide? But it's beautiful regardless. The only thing I would change is how long the pen/pencil holder is BUT I'm sure Dave had a purpose in designing it that way. I have yet to be disappointed in anything I have purchased from Saddleback, and that is the honest truth. Thanks Dave!

This notepad holder is very cool. Mine was a 25% Dave's Deal. I guess the discount was because of an awesome scar on the inside cover. Honestly Dave could have created an "Awesome Scar Surcharge" because it adds so much character.
