Say YES to Function

Answer YES or NO honestly about your current camera bag

● Can it be worn across the chest for easy access and converted to a backpack for trekking?
● Is it insulative so batteries and gear don’t quickly freeze or get damaged with heat?
● Would you use it as your everyday carry when not taking pictures?
● Does it enhance the way you look as a photographer?
● Can you leave it unbuckled or unzipped for hours without gear falling out because it has a flap?

Say NO to Eye Pollution

Answer Yes or No about your current camera bag

● Would someone ever paint it into a painting?
● Is it photogenic? Would it ever be the subject of the photograph in Venice or out in nature?
● Is it classy?
● Is it attractive? Does it attract the eye of others?
● Does it get better looking the longer you have it? Or does it age like milk.
● Would your grandchildren fight over it when you’re dead?
● Would it enhance your photos if it were in the shot? Or be photoshopped out like a piece of trash.
● Does anyone compliment you on how good looking it is?
● Does it make you look better?
● Does it reflect who you are?
● Does your other camera bag age like fine wine?  or like old milk?
● Are you excited about it? Or it is boring.
● Are you proud of it?

Say YES to Joy

Answer Yes or No about your current camera bag

● Are you emotionally attached to it?
● Would you miss it if you lost the bag itself?
● Does it look like it has stories to tell?
● Do you ever intentionally rough it up to make it look better?
● Will people take pictures of your camera bag?
● Would people ask to borrow your camera bag empty?
● Has it ever brought you joy and enhanced your life?
● Will this ever be said about it? “This was your grandfather’s or grandmother’s camera bag and now it’s yours.

FAQs and Objections

● What about protection if I drop it? My other camera bag has a lot of foam in it.
    ○ Let the padding on the bottom be a small blanket or light sweatshirt for just in case situations.
● But it’s not big enough for all of my gear.
    ○ It’s not meant to hold ALL of your gear. Do you only have one pair of shoes? Leave the 35 lb. camera bag in the hotel room and carry this for smaller fun outings or on long treks.
● What about dust and rain getting in? Buckle it down and it’ll be fine.      You’re overthinking it unless you’re using it in the blowing sands of the Sahara. Then just put a t-shirt on top of it and then buckle it down. And don’t carry it through waterfalls.
● Why did you rename it the Photographer’s Satchel?
     ○ 15 years ago, it was named The Medium Satchel. 10 years ago, I redesigned it for more comfort and renamed it The Rounded Satchel. Since so many photographers buy it and send in great photos of it, and because it’s what our photographers and videographers personally carry at Saddleback, it became obvious and appropriate that it be renamed The Photographer’s Satchel.

Justification To Spend the Money

● Even a cheap crap lens costs more than this bag, which is a key part of your gear.
● It’s cheaper to buy one bag than replace bags for the rest of your life.
● Don’t mess up other people’s photos with your ugly or boring camera bag.
● Two bags in one. Most camera bags are dedicated to being used for only cameras, but this is a fashion accessory meant to be used for daily use when not out shooting.
● Photographers are drawn to beautiful and interesting things to capture so others can enjoy them too. Why would you own a not beautiful or interesting camera bag?
● We pay more money to have a room with a beautiful view. We spend a lot of time and money to drive or fly to beautiful, faraway nature or look into the Grand Canyon and then return home. We take a lot of time and effort to hide powerlines, cords, trash, and other things that aren’t natural or that just don’t fit. Creatives love good-looking things. That’s why they congregate in beautiful places and paint or photograph beautiful things. Why would a photographer carry an ugly camera bag on their side unless they just couldn’t find a beautiful one? You now have no excuse.

    ROUNDED LEATHER SATCHEL

Bought this satchel in dark coffee brown for the convenience of crossbody AND backpack carry options. Absolutely LOVE the bag. Love it so much, I bought the duffle bag/waterbag the day after I got the satchel. The quality is exceptional. The leather is thick and the stainless hardware is ideal. You can tell this is a bag intended to be used and abused, not babied it like some designer bags that are intended to look nice but not be beaten up in travel. This bag will look better with use. Buy it...you'll like it.

    Rounded Leather Satchel- Tobacco

The Saddleback Rounded Leather Satchel in Tobacco has quickly become one of my favorite bags. It’s reasonably priced and ideal for daily use—perfect for errands or outings when you just need essentials. I already own the large Front Pocket Briefcase in Dark Coffee Brown and the Front Pocket Leather backpack (the full one) in Tobacco, both of which are fantastic for travel or work. But sometimes,...... they’re simply too big for everyday tasks, like running quick errands or taking the dogs out for a walk. Enter the Rounded Satchel. This satchel is compact yet versatile. It comfortably holds my wallet, phone, charger, a few small toiletries, and earbuds, and still has room for a water bottle, a firearm, or even passports, more toiletries, regular white envelopes, 4 soda cans (maybe more) if needed. It strikes the perfect balance between being minimal and functional. Unlike my wife's travel satchel, which I initially envied, this bag has a bit more room while still keeping things light and easy. As a nurse practitioner living in St. Petersburg, Florida, this bag’s style and size are spot on for my lifestyle. It’s practical, unisex, and doesn’t force you to leave anything behind. No- I cant stuff it with unfolded files and folders, but that is what the other bags are for. I’ve used the rounded Satchel from casual outings to business casual settings, and it complements everything from a rugged outfit to a smart blazer at a conference. The bag features a soft pigskin internal pocket, false bottom, a key fob, additional internal pockets, and a roomy rear exterior pocket. It can do backpack mode QUITE well since it’s designed for practicality rather than capacity (I figured that is how you the reader of this review might want to use this bag). If you’re looking for something lightweight, ultra-practical, and a timeless style at a fair price mon frere...... this is it buddy! I’m over-the-moon thrilled with this satchel and am sure you’ll love it too!

For When Your Back Needs Relief.

I purchased this satchel 8 months ago and it has been serving me quite well. I have scoliosis and some days my back doesn't like for me to use my Gen 1 Tank or my Front Pocket Backpack. This satchel fits all of my essentials comfortably, although I must admit I have to downsize my water bottle to make the setup work. I use the satchel in backpack mode and I don't use the strap and shoulder pads it came with. Instead, I managed to pickup an extra set of original, Gen 1 Tank straps Saddleback had in their warehouse (I don't know if they have any more so please don't take my word for it). The light-weight of this satchel paired with OG Tank straps make for an extremely comfortable bag to carry. So much so that I went for a hike the other day for several hours and my back wasn't in any sort of pain at all. Apart from carrying EDC essentials, this makes for a good farmer's market bag. I went to one several months ago and got concerned with the space and how much I was buying. Sure enough, this satchel handled it all and most importantly I was comfortable. Even the lady ringing me up was surprised I fit everything in there. All in all, this is the perfect bag for carrying your every day essentials and I cannot recommend it enough and especially so during the warmer months. Five Stars and would repurchase if something ever happened to it.

    Perfect for dance shoes

The small compartment holds ballet slippers perfectly and the main area holds two pairs of tap shoes. So what if the bag cost more than the shoes; it’ll also last much longer!

    Fantastic bag

I use my Rounded Leather Satchel as a field bag for hunting. However, it’s a great cross over bag. On a recent trip to Argentina, I carried the satchel in backpack mode on the plane and through the airport. When we arrived, I used the bag in the field with shooting gloves, shooting glasses, hearing protection, snacks, water bottles …. Just anything I thought I would need. It’s so versatile, just get it. Back home it spend time loaded with binoculars, knife, leatherman tool, flashlight … it is one bag you will use all the time.
