Our hope is that you’ll be proud of your bag because of the compliments you get and how long it lasts. But our deeper hope is that you join our community of those nurturing the vulnerable and loving the unloved. We do more than just quality leather bags; we do quality in all areas of our business.
Our purpose is not to change the world by loving orphans, single moms and ex-prisoners one at a time. It’s to work with a Love 41 community/family of loving and nurturing people to do it. If you want to but you’re not sure how, then join us on Facebook or sign up for our newsletter to learn more. We’ll help you get plugged in.
Read MoreThis is the 2nd edition of the Thin Front Pocket Leather Backpack with a few changes that I think you'll love. The original backpack was everyone's favorite, and we rarely got a complaint. Still, I made some slight changes that may be overkill, but they're more consistent with our lowest possible seam-feet approach to design.
---This slim leather backpack is still built without breakable parts like zippers, magnets, velcro, or snaps. It is still reinforced at all stress points with hidden polyester straps and strong rivets. At Saddleback Leather Co, we build full grain leather designs that stand the test of time. Breakable parts are things you find in a department store backpack, not here.
---The body of this slim leather backpack is still only built with two big solid pieces of leather, but now all three front pockets of the backpack are all made of just one solid piece of leather. You see, the fewer seams a leather backpack has, the fewer seams there are to start a rip. And not only that, but we only allow 5 stitches per inch of our seams, so there is more leather between holes and, therefore, fewer holes to start a tear. I once interviewed a second-generation sailmaker in New Zealand. He referred to a sewing machine as a perforation machine and said the fewer holes, the stronger the sail. That stuck with me. It's the same with this leather backpack.
---This leather backpack is entirely made of full-grain leather, the strongest and most water-resistant leather. And it's a little thicker than boot leather. We could have saved money, used something less pricey like top grain leather, or saved even more and made a genuine leather backpack. But we didn't worry about the price of the best natural leather. We wanted to make something that would last, so we used the best full grain leather.
---The Thin Front Pocket Leather Backpack has three exterior pockets with a hidden pocket behind them for quick access or for sticking in longer things. The main backpack strap has a hole at the very tip just in case your bag is way, way overstuffed. The shoulder straps have an adjustable and comfortable shoulder pad to distribute the backpack's weight.
I am going camping next week and I already have the perfect backpack to take - THIS ONE!

This backpack is the perfect size for EDC. Smartphone in an otterbox in the left pocket, saddleback leather wallet in the right pocket, key ring in the pouch behind that, and my phone charger, knife sharpener, leatherman, airpods and glasses case fit perfectly in the front pocket. The leather feels great, the stitches are wonderful and I get compliments on it everywhere I go!

Let's get the one drawback out of the way first - it would be nice if it were a tiny bit larger. With that said, I've never not taken it anywhere because of capacity, and - critically important - I've yet to find the plane seat anywhere in the world where, fully packed, it will not slide (or wedge) under the seat in front of me. That's huge. Now for the best stuff - a pack like this makes you want to get off your butt and go on an adventure, i.e. like in the picture. Secondly, not one time have I had this one when I didn't get a compliment, and sometimes several, while wearing it. Bonus - the compliments often come from attractive women, making a great conversation starter. I repeat - quit thinking and buy this bag.

I normally do not write reviews although I purchased tons of products. This is the exception! My husband is the pickiest guy on this planet. I purchased another well-known brand leather backpack for him and whenever he uses it, profanity just flying out. He is the IT guy and this back fits his daily uses. He LOVES this backpack! He LOVES nothing before. He even said, Dave's leather designs made other Leather Companies out there look stupid. After received this leather backpack, I went back and purchased 3 more items (Canvas...Backpack, Tool Bag, & Bi-fold Wallet). My husband only wants quality, smart engineered products and Dave's designs met that. They look good, functional, and practical unlike most products. I went back on site to look for an Old Bull Leather Belt 1.5 size 30 but disappointed that Dave does not have this size. :( I am looking for a leather belt that my husband can wear his concealed pistol, something tough. Thank you for making a grump happy. :)

I needed a bag for the commute to an IT job. I picked out the TFPBP as a compromise in size and weight. It's lightweight and comfortable. With a padded laptop sleeve permanently installed, I can carry two ultralight laptops, iPad, power supplies, battery, buds, knife, pen light, pens, notebook, first aid stuff, business cards and badges. That loadout leaves zero usable space without squeezing the expensive electronics. If wishes were horses, I'd have room for a light jacket plus either a water bottle or an umbrella. Say 180 more cubic inches TOPS. That would still be way more compact than the regular FPBP and would allow the side pockets a little more volume, too. I considered the FPBP, but maneuvering on subway, I really hate people flinging their deep-@$$ bags around, knocking babies out o' dey mommas arms and taking up two peoples space.
