Some thoughts on the Tank 2.0

I've had my copy of the Tank 2.0 (#38 of 50) for a couple of weeks so I thought I'd share my thought. For reference, I also own the Front Pocket Briefcase (for about 5 years) as well as two big leather wallets and a note pad case. The reason I bought the Tank 2.0 is because for exercise reasons, I walk to work in the morning from the park & ride - it's about a 3 - 3.5 mile walk that I enjoy to keep in shape. During the walk I sling the front pocket leather briefcase over my back messenger bag style (even though I have the option to turn it into a backpack...call me crazy). Every once in a while my shoulder would start to get a little sore so I thought this would be a great opportunity to get something lighter that was really designed as a backpack. Here are the pros - it's got a great amount of space. My work laptop fits PERFECTLY in the inner sleeve. There's a ton of room to throw in a watch cap and gloves (for those cold mornings...or for the afternoons after walking in the cold mornings), lunch, etc. The outside pockets are great for throwing in the power cord and mouse for your laptop. The second sleeve under the flat is great for file folders, a newspaper/magazine (for us old folks) or an iPad for the younger folks. The "secret" pockets behind the outside side pockets are great if you're traveling and need to stash your plane boarding passes or other everyday carry items. I also like to carry a couple of mechanical pencils and a couple of fountain pens and the pockets inside the backpack are perfect for this. The durability is there. You can certainly see that Dave has put his heart and mind behind this to design something that's lighter and just as durable as the first version. The metal rings are smaller than those on my Front Pocket Briefcase and the pack is definitely light to carry. I hardly notice it on my back. Here's why I gave it four stars instead of 5 (and honestly it would have been 4.5 stars if that was an option). I'm an older guy and I'm not built like today's Metro Men who like to wear skinny jeans. I've worked out throughout life so I've got bigger shoulders and a bigger back. That being said, the straps are a bit short and could be 2 - 3 inches longer. I'm most comfortable at the bottom hole - but the straps have detached..I've got to adjust them to the third hole up to get a good positive engagement with the buckle. I've thought about a solution that might help Dave because I can certainly see the issue at the bottom of the pack where too long of straps would be a problem to some folks. My recommendation for the 3.0 version is to make the straps about an inch or inch and a half longer at the bottom, and then again about an inch and a half longer at the top. The difference is at the top, there would be three or four holes where the buyer is provided with a couple of brass leather joining screws so the buyer could adjust the strap length up top on their own. There is a popular holster company in Alaska that does this on their chest rigs and it works. The second (VERY SMALL) recommendation I have is to make the inside pen pockets about an inch deeper. My mechanical pencils and fountain pens are shorter than some of the giveaway pens out there you might find at hotels or conferences. The pen clips barely engage in the pocket. It's not a problem for me, but it might be for other folks. I'm looking forward to using this bag (and continuing to use my Front Pocket Briefcase depending on the situation) for the rest of my career and I'm certain both will last as long. For the buyer, I live in a dry climate and when I received my bag, I noticed it was a bit dry. A couple of coats of Leather Milk upon arrival (spread out over a couple of days) soaked in very nicely and helped to get through the first snowstorm I carried my bag through. I recommend the bag and I think it's a decent value for the money. Thanks Dave and crew for continuing to put your hearts into this business. The quality shows and the workmanship is amazing.

    Last backpack you’ll ever buy

I got this backpack a year ago in chestnut. I carry it everyday and get compliments all the time. A year later and it looks better than it did the first day I got it.

    6 year review

This backpack has been everywhere with me for the past 6 years. It's seen me through 3 jobs, 4 vehicles, 3 laptops. Always carried whatever I needed without complaint, not a single problem with it. I've overloaded it on the back of a motorcycle, dropped it off of said motorcycle in the rain. I've stuffed too much crap in all the pockets and put way too much weight in it(sometimes 50+ pounds). Never burst a seam or broke a strap, despite mistreating it pretty much every step of the way. It's pretty much the only thing that has lasted me into my late 20s that I own, and I've owned a lot of junk.

    Freaking awesome bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This bag is the bees knees. I have had mine for close to 5 years. I use it daily and I get offered money for almost everyday. I would recommend this bag if you are looking to a high quality leather bag. to most this bag seems a little heavy. To me its perfect. its fits all my gear as I work in the IT field. If you think the price is too high your wrong . As my dad always said you get what you pay for. I think its well worth the price. So pull the trigger and order it.

The bag is great when it's not in a closet.

I work in a large occupancy industrial environment, where I've been dubbed as "the guy with the leather backpack." I get a lot of positive attention, frequently stopped by strangers for compliments. I use this bag for everything: work, travel, camera gear, etc. I've had this bag for 2.5yrs, and have loved it the whole time. The bag does start off stiff, as good leather does, but once it breaks in it becomes quite comfortable over time, so don't worry if you think the straps are uncomfortable since they'll feel just fine in a short amount of time as it breaks in to your body. The pockets stretch over time too, so the front laptop pocket will fit a laptop snuggly, but now it can accommodate the laptop and a couple notebooks. I've used leather milk on it a couple times and it really makes the bag pop while keeping it healthy; In fact, I'm going to apply more now.
