I am so glad to have finally bought it..

For more than 6 months, I went through all the videos on youtube, read every review on the website, trolling through the first 10 pages in google on saddleback briefcases in an attempt to decide on which type, colour and size I would like. Sometimes, it took a day. It was really addictive, reading reviews of saddleback products. Finally, I pulled the trigger and ordered one. For my love of reading reviews, I must write this one. Why I chose the size and the colour. It is the classic Large briefcase in chestnut. It is the perfect fit for me. I am 5'10 and 190 pounds. For all of you deciding between a medium and a large (like I was), and if you are around the same specs as me, save your time considering and just get the large. The medium will look really tiny on you. When it came, I couldn't take my eyes off it. The chestnut is beautiful. Excellent for a professional setting. I couldn't keep my hands off it. My girlfriend thought I was going to sleep with my briefcase! The leather smell is intoxicating. It fills your whole room with it. I am smelling it as I type this review. Build wise, it is solid. Very confident it will last more than a 100 years. The quality is as of what other reviews say. The bag is relatively heavy, but not THAT heavy. Any guy can carry that ! I travel to the office and out to meet clients everyday, and backpack mode while wearing a shirt and pants fits me like a glove. I am able to pack my gym gear (shoes, shaker bottle, protein, clothes), my office papers, and my MBP 15in. Note: a 15in MBP will be impossible to fit in a medium classic briefcase. I love it to bits. This is a great investment as compared to buying a bag from a high end luxury brand, which will easily cost 3-4 times. Thank you dave.

Business, Personal, Travel, and Everything in Between

I've had the medium, dark coffee brown briefcase for over three months now. It is hands down the best briefcase and bag I've ever owned. I've packed it for a two day trip as well as overnight business travel. It is extremely comfortable carrying it on the shoulder, as a backpack, and just by the handle. The bag is extremely durable and is barely beginning to break in. Definitely picking up some nice scars from all the travel but tough as nails. I'm hooked on these products and have ordered a medium front pocket backpack as well. Between these two I can pack everything I need for the better part of the week (or even longer). Don't hesitate. Get this briefcase - you will put it to more uses than you think!

    Large VS Extra Large

I struggled when I was searching the web for a good comparison of the large and the XL classic briefcases. I was stuck and had no idea which to get based on the size difference. I didn't want the XL to be too big but also wanted to ensure that I could carry everything that I needed in the Large. To solve my problem I ordered one of each, luckily both popped up on Dave's Deals within a few days of each other. I'm 6'1" 205lbs. So I'm not a small guy by any means but I definately wouldn't call myself hercules either. The large is honestly a great size, there is no reason you could not carry everything you need in this bag. My issue with it mostly has to do with the laptop situation. I love Dave and all of his products but I do not think he will ever convert me to being a Mac computer guy. So because I use a PC I'm always in this weird gray area for his different sizes. My 15.6" Dell fit snugly and securely in the large but I like to keep my laptop in a case or sleeve so the large wasn't quite wide enough for that. When I first saw the XL I was a little worried, it looks quite massive upon first glance. People complain about it's weight, lets be honest here guys is the large like carrying a feather around? Negative. The weight difference between the two really isn't that much when empty, the only time it becomes a problem is when you load the XL as much as possible. One thing I didn't realize would be so nice about the XL is that extra inch of height that it gives you, it allows my to keep my medium notepad holder in there vertically instead of having to lay it down horizontally. This gives more room to carry other things. For those of you who are back and forth between these two sizes here is what I would tell you: 1. If you travel a ton with it and need to carry more than just into the office or from the house to the car the XL may be too big and bulky. 2. Figure out your computer situation and use that to help you, especially if you want to keep it in a case. 3. I can't speak for those of you who are shorter than I am but the XL does not look too big on me in my opinion, so don't worry about that. It's not about what it looks like on you anyways, its about how functional it is and how sexy the bag is no matter what size/color you get. I decided to keep the XL and could not be happier with it, whichever one you decide to buy you will enjoy so go ahead and pull the trigger already! Josh

    Just Epic

I don't want to bore you with a long drawn out epic story how this bag, while in Ecuaudor, it led me to some beautiful, mocha skinned, girl. It didn't. I'm happily married with 3 kids. What I can tell you is that it's the best friggin bag I have ever had. I usually have it in backpack mode while going to work. I sometimes mix it up by using the strap.... As a strap (messenger style) when my shoulders are hurting from working out. Yes, I work out. That said, this beast of cowhide holds my MacBook Pro 15", plus my piece of s*** dell work laptop plus a grid-it full of cables and USB drives. I also have a novel in there most of the time and a honking lunch bento. Yes. I said honking lunch bento. Do yourself a favor and get this bag. You won't regret it To mirror what every other owner said on here. I get tons of "oh man! Nice leather bag" and "are you getting paid more than me?" Which with I reply a confident "yes, yes I do".

A longish review that manages to say nothing much.

Ordered a large briefcase in tobacco. Received a large briefcase in chestnut. Well, hell, when I placed the order I was all kinds of back and forth between those two colors anyway and almost changed it to chestnut several times. So I suppose fate said chestnut. When I received the bag, I called Saddleback to give them a heads up about the mix up. The young man I talked to, who sounded a little like a surfer (called me bro) was devastated. Just really upset. Promised to make it right post haste. I had to console him and explain that it didn't harsh my mellow. He sent me a key fob in chestnut to match my bag. I usually hate being called "bro", I'm almost fifty, but his sincerity ("I gotta tell ya bro... chestnut isn't my favorite") and willingness to listen to me ramble a little on my thoughts vis-a-vis tobacco vs chestnut really won me over. Nice kid and great customer service. Materials and construction... lives up to the hype. And I'm not just saying that because it was $610 and you dang well better love it. It's clear that quality control is a priority with these people. Only flaw I've found is that the central buckle is slightly skewed. It's sewn on in the right spot but canted just a few degrees to the left. This causes the top flap to sit slightly more to one side than the other. And I do mean slightly. I'm very fussy about these things. I examined every seam, rivet and piece of leather meticulously and that was all I could find. I doubt anyone else would have found it. I can see why these bags are so pricey. Great materials and attention to detail cost a lot. I have no idea what the profit margin is on these but it can't be a whole hell of a lot. I owned a Rolex that had a lot more flaws than this bag has (it did, however, keep better time). Comfort... No problem. People who write reviews about how heavy it is annoy me. Yes, it's heavy. They tell you the weight and if you bought it anyway shut up about "heavy"! Alright... it's heavy. About as much as my empty expedition backpack. I really never notice though. I find it carries very nice in satchel and backpack mode (on the motorbike). Utility... I can, and do, fit lots of crap in this thing. Lots. Chargers, lap top, extra clothes, books, first aid kit and more stuff I can't think of right now. Not quite big enough for an over nighter in the woods unless you want to go hardcore minimalist somewhere tropical... with room service. Short of that, it'll hold more than you want to lug on a daily basis. One caveat; seems very possible to lose small stuff in the gap between the flap and the top of the bag. Somewhat of a gap there at the ends. Overall... Very good and I feel it was money well spent. I think Dave and I had a fair trade. I gave him $610 and he gave me a leather bag that I feel was worth every penny of it. So why not five stars? I've never given anything five stars. That level of perfection is unobtainable... the central buckle is ever so slightly skewed.
