We only use the toughest leather we can get (thick full-grain leather), the highest grade of hide you can buy, to make all of our leather laptop bags. The grain is the toughest and most water-resistant part of the hide. So when companies sand or split off the top part of the hide to get rid of scars and blemishes so they can use up more of the hide, they're getting rid of the toughest part.
Yes, full-grain leather is the quarterback getting all of the attention. But the other materials we use is what the over-engineering thing is all about. We line our leather briefcases with pigskin, which is more durable than the full-grain leather. The hardware is the ridiculous 316 stainless steel (rated to hold up to 750 lbs). We sew everything together with a UV-resistant marine-grade polyester thread (it's the same exact threat that's used to sew together ship sails and parachutes... you know, things your life depends on).
This thin leather laptop bag is our smallest leather briefcase and is wide enough to fit any 14" MacBook Pro or laptop. The 2019 15" Macbook Pro fits in the main compartment but not inside the soft laptop sleeve pocket. Two interior flat front pockets to hold a charger, pens, cables, and papers. There aren't a lot of features and functionality, but that's on purpose. It's just a simple briefcase that is the perfect size for your smaller laptops.

This is my second Saddleback bag and my favorite yet! I bought a dark coffee brown messenger bag in 2009 or 10. I loved the quality of the bag but I think I bought it because it was the bag I could afford rather than the bag I needed. I carried it some but soon passed it on to a friend that still carries it. Fast-forward to 2020. I have streamlined my needs (and my laptop!) and determined a Thirteener to be just the bag to bring me back into the fold. This was a big purchase for me, one to save up for, but when a Dave’s Deal came up on the bag I wanted there was no stopping me! Love the richness of the aptly-named Chestnut color. Love the couple of pockets for my charger and tools. Love the soft pocket for my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 13). And especially love the couple of extra seconds I spend enjoying the bag as I operate the buckle to open and close it. I’m sure it will eventually become mindless, but, for now, those extra moments in an otherwise fast-paced day are just the thing!
