We only use the toughest leather we can get (thick full-grain leather), the highest grade of hide you can buy, to make all of our leather laptop bags. The grain is the toughest and most water-resistant part of the hide. So when companies sand or split off the top part of the hide to get rid of scars and blemishes so they can use up more of the hide, they're getting rid of the toughest part.
Yes, full-grain leather is the quarterback getting all of the attention. But the other materials we use is what the over-engineering thing is all about. We line our leather briefcases with pigskin, which is more durable than the full-grain leather. The hardware is the ridiculous 316 stainless steel (rated to hold up to 750 lbs). We sew everything together with a UV-resistant marine-grade polyester thread (it's the same exact threat that's used to sew together ship sails and parachutes... you know, things your life depends on).
This thin leather laptop bag is our smallest leather briefcase and is wide enough to fit any 14" MacBook Pro or laptop. The 2019 15" Macbook Pro fits in the main compartment but not inside the soft laptop sleeve pocket. Two interior flat front pockets to hold a charger, pens, cables, and papers. There aren't a lot of features and functionality, but that's on purpose. It's just a simple briefcase that is the perfect size for your smaller laptops.

The Thirteener is the perfect size for running to an appointment, or to the office. As the name suggests, it holds my 13” MacBook Pro, 12.9” iPad Pro, a few file folders, and a few other small things (chargers, pens, etc...) while maintaining a sleek and beautiful look. If I need more than that, I carry my SBL front pocket backpack, as that about maxes out the capacity for the Thirteener. Like everything from SBL, the quality is top notch. The reason they can offer a 100yr warranty, is they know they won’t have to fix or replace very often because it’s actually built to last that long.
This case fits my needs perfectly. It holds my 12.9 iPad Pro and everything I need on a daily basis. The quality of the work and leather is unsurpassed. Great job Saddleback.
Purchased lots of Saddleback over the years including a larger front pocket briefcase and smaller Indiana Satchel. This hits the sweet spot of staying minimal and light but providing enough storage/organization for mobile law practice. It is now my go-to daily carry. Fits two iPads pros with slim keyboards with some room for a small binder or some copied documents. Also fits cords and other accessories for organization, making for a minimalist mobile office. If you're looking for a roomier option for old school files and several binders this is probably not the right choice, but for a modern minimalist carry it is phenomenal. This leather is like butter and the sewing/hardware is the usual Saddleback quality, great!
Very strong leather that will last for a long time! The briefcase holds its shape well even when it’s not packed full unlike other brief cases. I have a friend who has one of the bigger brief cases and this size is perfect for me for work.
