We only use the toughest leather we can get (thick full-grain leather), the highest grade of hide you can buy, to make all of our leather laptop bags. The grain is the toughest and most water-resistant part of the hide. So when companies sand or split off the top part of the hide to get rid of scars and blemishes so they can use up more of the hide, they're getting rid of the toughest part.
Yes, full-grain leather is the quarterback getting all of the attention. But the other materials we use is what the over-engineering thing is all about. We line our leather briefcases with pigskin, which is more durable than the full-grain leather. The hardware is the ridiculous 316 stainless steel (rated to hold up to 750 lbs). We sew everything together with a UV-resistant marine-grade polyester thread (it's the same exact threat that's used to sew together ship sails and parachutes... you know, things your life depends on).

Love the design, it’s the perfect inbetween-er, maybe that’s why you coined the term. I use it to haul the 12” iPad Pro and a Surface Pro work computer with both chargers. Just perfect, and the smell, well, it says it all!
It was a gift for my son. It looks to be quality craftsmanship and durable. The leather is beautiful and the exterior has a soft finish to it. My son needs the larger, slim briefcase style. I have returned the thirteener and will be purchasing the slim.
If you are on this web site no need to explain SBL stuff is best you can buy. Have had a few different models and as tech has downsized thought this would be great. Carry a Surface Pro an IPad and various charges and cables, accessories. That’s it. Just those items packs this bag. Tough to get glasses in and out. iPad is a very tight fit in the sleeve with SP Great bag but mine will be on eBay soon for one that’s a touch bigger like the slim laptop bag perhaps
