The Munson Last - A Shoe Shaped To Mimic A Barefoot Step

It has been nearly 90 years since a shoe shaped like ours has been offered for sale since no one else has had a sculpted last that so perfectly and comfortably shapes to the form of the foot. Ours is based on the 1st and 2nd of the 6 generations of the Munson Last that was created from 1908 to 1912 by Dr. Munson and his Shoe Board to fix all of the foot problems in the U.S. Military.

Because of its asymmetrical shape and the swing to one side, it was terribly difficult and time consuming to build and so the orthopedic nature of it was dumbed down for ease of manufacturing in the later generations. We only found one small family run shop in Italy whose old patriarch could show his shoemakers how to make our shoe like they used to. Our Tight and Pure Materials

With this full leather synthetic free shoe, our intention was to design and build the highest quality shoe in the world. Whether or not we achieved it, we'll never know, but we do not know how someone could build a shoe to last longer. Each Officer’s Boot is made with only full-grain, vegetable tanned Italian leather which is arguably one of the tightest fibered leathers we could buy.

From the most durable military grade eyelets and hooks to the thick slabs of leather used for the insole and outsole, every component was chosen for durability, comfort, and to be easily re-soled over and over again. Each pair of Officer’s Boots is handmade in a small workshop in Italy, where shoemaking is an art form passed down through generations and where the culture of quality is alive and well. Distinguished Design

Not many boots are complimented by strangers 100 years after they were designed. That doesn't happen because of one or two design details. That is the result of the sum of dozens of small choices for the weight of the design in one area over another, the height and shape of the toe or the distance the sole sticks out from beneath the body. It was designed to be versatile, to be worn in battle and in ceremonies and nothing has changed. Most 'my first big boy starter' boots look great right out of the box, but are hard to keep looking great without a lot of effort. Ours were designed to look great right at the start and all the way up to the end.

The exact tone of the deep Oxblood Red Brown color was not just picked out of a swatch book. It was dreamt of and designed to be just the right amount of darkness and rich tone, knowing that with these specialty Italian leathers, they would darken with time and sunshine and that is what you will live with the rest of your life. This exact color was developed because it matches perfectly with this style of shoe, but not with others. Nice boots!

These boots are a bit more fancy than my usual style, but I was excited to try them out. Out of the box they scream quality and the veg tan leather is beautiful. They were pretty stiff when I first put them on, and took a few days to really break in. After spending an entire day on my feet I realized I hadn’t thought about my feet once, which is a good sign! These feel great and I receive compliments on them just about every time I go out. Again, these are nicer than what I might usually wear, but I found myself dressing nicer just to give myself an excuse to wear them.

Get passed the break in and they're amazing

They said little to no break-in period for these and the first part is true. There is a little break-in period. Right out of the box they were pretty tight on the top of my foot. The length and width was great, but below the laces on the top of my foot was pretty tight. It took a few days of wearing before they loosened up but now they feel amazing. They actually feel like a custom made boot. I have a Chestnut briefcase and portfolio and these are a really close match. I'm looking forward to more Italian leathers.

Best made and feeling boots ever

Retired military and really appreciate a good fitting boot. The fit and feel of these boots is unbelievable. The full leather sole gives them a more formal look than what I typically wear on a daily basis but my wife likes the look so I'm sticking with it.
