Very versatile bag
This is a wonderfully versatile bag. I have the large Chestnut bag. I was using the classic backpack daily to go back and forth to my gym at work, but it wasn't the ideal bag for the job. The dry bag is very similar to the waterbag, only smaller. There is no video showing how to use this bag on the website, but watching the waterbag video will show you how to "stow" the strap when carrying open. It's the perfect size for an overnight bag or gym bag, and the smaller sizes could pass for a woman's purse. There are a few differences between the dry bag and waterbag, besides the number of straps. The handle is sewn on, not riveted, and its not detachable. Since the bag is smaller, it likely won't be carrying massive amounts of weight. Second, the strap is attached with a screw type clip, instead of the quick release type. Personally I'd have ratcheted the quick release type, but its no big deal. Third, this bag is meant to be carried open or rolled, the strap isn't long enough to do the "through the handle" closure that the waterbag does. So you can roll it and use the strap, or carry open and stow the strap. It's about the size of a large brown paper grocery bag. It's super versatile, and in my opinion, the perfect combination of size, weight (no pigskin), and utility. It'd be a perfect carry on, overnight bag, gym bag, etc. I have about 15 different saddleback products and this is my favorite one.

Yet another sweet item from THE leather experts. Was able to get this large Dry Bag at the 35% off deal and am I ever happy I did. This thing will serve as just about anything. Overnight bag, cooler, shopping bag. Whatever your hearts desire. If SBL is getting rid of this model, I'm glad I got it. Very nice and very useful! Another notch in my leather belt. Thanks SBL!

I got my large Dry Bag, it is so well made! The smell of the leather is so fragrant, the finish to the bag is one of perfection. I never write reviews, I can never be bothered, but this is indeed an exceptional product, its finish, attention to detail and quality is second to none. I feel I have received a family heirloom. I now understand how people buy more products from Dave. I am thinking of getting some mre gear and I haven't hade the bag for more than a few hours. If you are thinking about these bags don't hestiate you will not regret having one. Cheers Steve

Kind of a do-all bag!!!!
When I first planned on ordering this bag I was torn between this bag (large carbon black) or a utility duffle. In my opinion this bag has an edge over the duffle because of it being made of one piece of leather, and being more dirt and water resistant. The only thing that the duffle has over this bag is more space. But overall if your looking for a multi purpose bag to use as luggage, gym bag, makeshift cooler, and probably more, than definitely give this bag a closer look. You might be surprised at its possible uses.

Lunch baby!
I was purchasing a classic briefcase and decided that I needed something to carry my lunch. Well, my plastic/vinyl bag that I was using had given up the ghost right about this time too. I decided this bag was the right dimensions, not too big, not too small, for me to carry all my necessary items, Protein shakes, Pyrex for the salads, and entrees, milk for the shakes, not a small amount of items, plus something to keep them cool and a number of Coke Zeroes for the day, just for survival (I teach junior high). I stumbled across the videos of people putting ice in some of Dave's bags and seeing how long it would last and how cold it stayed. I was sold! I purchased it and have used it every day for bringing my lunch for the last three years. It's awesome! With the variable height, I can carry anything. I even packed a large number of dry snacks for a trip the family made up to Canada two years ago, and it performed magnificently. Crackers, peanut butter, trail mix and bread all stayed dry and safe in a car of six people for two weeks. It was a joy to use and ample space. It looks as beautiful as the day I purchased it, with just some rubbing marks from where I tend to fold it every day and it rubs along my classic briefcase while walking into work and out. Since this one rolls down, it's always been soft as butter (or butta). I have offered for the wife to use it for her photography equipment too, it would fit it no problem. I'm sorry I missed out on Dave's soft, flexible pads a couple years ago to help with that. The hard sided interior shell is wonderful too. It's helped save me from a couple small spills, and one incident when a Coke can exploded, without ever reaching the leather. I was pleasantly surprised by that, but if it would have reached it, it would have only added to the character. Dave, you knocked it out of the park. And the staff of your wonderful company is AMAZING! They make me feel incredible with every contact, and have even given me information about where to visit when I mention where we are traveling. I wish I could remember her name, but she sent me a package of materials about Mount Rushmore and the surrounding areas, knowing we were going to be traveling there in the near future. We had to postpone our trip, but I feel more confident we will have that in hand when we do get there. And when I was trying to make the order for this and the classic briefcase, I wanted to take advantage of the free shipping special you were running at that time. But one of them was out of stock until after the special finished. Your wonderful staff made sure my order went through, I got the shipping (not a lot, but still a good perk) and got me the bags, with hardly any delay. Making me feel like the most important customer in the world. I tell people about your company constantly, not only for the amazing products, but for the wonderful people too. Keep up the amazing work, Saddleback and Dave Munson! (I'm coveting the Beast Duffel and one of the suitcases now.) P.S. The warranty is real. Believe it and use it if you need to.
