Read MoreThis is the 4th Edition of the Squared Leather Backpack and has been refined over the years to what it is now. You'll see old pictures with a fat flat handle, but the new one is high and thinner. And it's still over-engineered. It has no breakable parts like buttons, magnets, or zippers and it's still reinforced with rivets through and hidden polyester strapping at all stress points. In addition, this newest edition of this leather backpack is made from only two large solid pieces of leather instead of three, which means that there are fewer seams on this backpack to tear apart. This leather backpack has a laptop pocket on the front exterior and one in the back that can fit a 17" laptop. Both tall side pockets have a hidden pocket behind them for quick access or for sticking in longer things. The lower and side d-rings on the backpack are great for securing on tripods, blankets, and or dirty and wet shoes. The shoulder straps are minimal, but with a comfortable and adjustable shoulder pad to distribute the backpack's weight where you need it.
---Full-grain leather is the strongest and most water-resistant leather you can use for a backpack, and we use the thick version of it. Like boot leather, but a tad thicker. Then we line it with pigskin, which is tougher than cow leather. Finally, we sew the leather backpack together with a very expensive German industrial marine-grade polyester thread that doesn't deteriorate in the sun as nylon thread does. The hardware is our custom 316 Stainless Steel hardware. I believe we are the only company in the world using such strong hardware to make a leather backpack. The buckles can hold up to a 750 lb. bag of cats without breaking. It's kind of like killing a fly with a shotgun, but I tell you this, you'll never have a problem with hardware breaking on your backpack. If it does break, it'll either be an excellent story or an unfortunate one.
---There are many advantages of a leather backpack. Let us start with a full grain leather bag will develop a beautiful patina over time and tell your story. The more you use this backpack, the better it looks. This will also protect your belongings from the elements better than some synthetic material. Full grain is the most water-resistant, so a little rain won't hurt it. That's what you get with high quality leather goods. Another significant advantage of our Squared Leather Backpack is that it's virtually impossible to tear.
---This Tank of a backpack is not for the faint of heart. It's big but not pretentious, and it's built to last. This is the one if you're searching for a leather backpack that will allow you to haul around your 17-inch laptop and gear easily. It's also perfect for traveling as it fits everything you need.
---You should not have problems getting through TSA with this as your carry-on backpack. It's a perfect size and has plenty of room for everything you need while still being small enough not to be a pain. This is an excellent backpack for a fun weekend trip, or work trip, with enough room for your laptop plus maybe a change of clothes, and whatever other gear you might need.
My wife gave me this bag for Christmas last year. I travel constantly for work and get compliments on this bag everywhere I go! It is very nice and the quality is unmatched to any other leather bag I have seen. There are only 3 things I think everyone who is considering this bag should know. 1. It is quite heavy, but this is also a sign of the quality and durability. 2. The seam at the bottom of the back can chafe your lower back. The optional lengths for the shoulder straps make it so its rides too high and chafes, or rests lower on my belt but then carries the weight too low on my back and can cause some lower back aching on long travel days. I chose the chafing and now my lower back is almost as leathery as my bag! 3. The D-rings that are used on both ends of the shoulder straps are secured with a threaded end and an attached nut. If you do not frequently tighten the nut; the d-ring opens and the shoulder straps just fall off. Can be very annoying. The other day as I checked into a hotel the guy behind the desk complimented the bag. I said thanks. As I swung it off my shoulder the bag went flying and I was left there with just a shoulder strap in my hand. The guy said, "Much cooler than practical huh?" I replied, "Pretty much." If this issue could be fixed I would gladly give this bag a 5 star rating. All that being said, I do not plan on using another backpack for the rest of my life. My wife and are fans of Saddleback. She uses the small clutch purse daily, I use the wallet, gave wallets as grooms men's gifts and just ordered an iPad cover today. Great products but there is always room for improvement.

I'm 21 years old and am happy to say this is the last bag I will need to buy. It is perfect, the pictures and YouTube videos do not do justice. The bag is amazing in person. I purchased this bag in dark coffee brown and it is beautiful! It will take a few weeks to break in the straps, so be patient. Other then that, it's perfect.

This is the first saddleback product I've purchased but won't be my last. My expectations for this backpack were high before seeing the bag. I've seen the videos and read all of the reviews but nothing prepared me for the sheer quality and craftsmanship of this backpack. It's sturdy, heavy, and rock solid to its core. I thought the 100 year warranty was a bit of hyperbole but upon a thorough inspection of the pack I realized it could last a hundred years or more. I could list endless reasons why I love this bag but no video, testimonial, or written review can give justice to the greatness of this backpack. It has to be seen and held to be believed.

This backpack is the most insanely well built leather product I have ever bought. It is the only product that I've come across that is Classy, Rugged, functional, beautiful, and tough all in the same package. This was my first purchase from Saddleback Leather, and the start of a long line of future purchases. I've now owned my backpack for about 1 year, I travel between the southern states, and northern B.C. Canada quite a bit and it has been, and will exclusively remain to be my favorite travel companion. Jeremy

This backpack is, I think, the best product Saddleback sells. It fits my outdoorsy personality yet I use it for business most every day. Why be typical and carry a briefcase (although Saddleback's are awesome)? I choose to rage against the machine and carry this quality piece of man-bag instead. A whole lotta cow must of been used to make this ample-sized backpack. I've owned the old, original, discontinued backpack that this one was modeled after, and this one is far better. It holds a ton of gear but isn't overly huge or too stiff. The weight is just fine, and it's comfortable to carry. I use this when I go camping, to the office, or traveling. All-around great bag that is fun to carry. Quality is the best.
