Our hope is that you’ll be proud of your bag because of the compliments you get and how long it lasts. But our deeper hope is that you join our community of those nurturing the vulnerable and loving the unloved. We do more than just quality leather bags; we do quality in all areas of our business.
Our purpose is not to change the world by loving orphans, single moms and ex-prisoners one at a time. It’s to work with a Love 41 community/family of loving and nurturing people to do it. If you want to but you’re not sure how, then join us on Facebook or sign up for our newsletter to learn more. We’ll help you get plugged in.
Read MoreThis is the 4th Edition of the Squared Leather Backpack and has been refined over the years to what it is now. You'll see old pictures with a fat flat handle, but the new one is high and thinner. And it's still over-engineered. It has no breakable parts like buttons, magnets, or zippers and it's still reinforced with rivets through and hidden polyester strapping at all stress points. In addition, this newest edition of this leather backpack is made from only two large solid pieces of leather instead of three, which means that there are fewer seams on this backpack to tear apart. This leather backpack has a laptop pocket on the front exterior and one in the back that can fit a 17" laptop. Both tall side pockets have a hidden pocket behind them for quick access or for sticking in longer things. The lower and side d-rings on the backpack are great for securing on tripods, blankets, and or dirty and wet shoes. The shoulder straps are minimal, but with a comfortable and adjustable shoulder pad to distribute the backpack's weight where you need it.
---Full-grain leather is the strongest and most water-resistant leather you can use for a backpack, and we use the thick version of it. Like boot leather, but a tad thicker. Then we line it with pigskin, which is tougher than cow leather. Finally, we sew the leather backpack together with a very expensive German industrial marine-grade polyester thread that doesn't deteriorate in the sun as nylon thread does. The hardware is our custom 316 Stainless Steel hardware. I believe we are the only company in the world using such strong hardware to make a leather backpack. The buckles can hold up to a 750 lb. bag of cats without breaking. It's kind of like killing a fly with a shotgun, but I tell you this, you'll never have a problem with hardware breaking on your backpack. If it does break, it'll either be an excellent story or an unfortunate one.
---There are many advantages of a leather backpack. Let us start with a full grain leather bag will develop a beautiful patina over time and tell your story. The more you use this backpack, the better it looks. This will also protect your belongings from the elements better than some synthetic material. Full grain is the most water-resistant, so a little rain won't hurt it. That's what you get with high quality leather goods. Another significant advantage of our Squared Leather Backpack is that it's virtually impossible to tear.
---This Tank of a backpack is not for the faint of heart. It's big but not pretentious, and it's built to last. This is the one if you're searching for a leather backpack that will allow you to haul around your 17-inch laptop and gear easily. It's also perfect for traveling as it fits everything you need.
---You should not have problems getting through TSA with this as your carry-on backpack. It's a perfect size and has plenty of room for everything you need while still being small enough not to be a pain. This is an excellent backpack for a fun weekend trip, or work trip, with enough room for your laptop plus maybe a change of clothes, and whatever other gear you might need.
I have the Squared Backpack in chestnut and absolutely love it. It's my daily carry bag. I have had it for six months now and my love affair with this bag is still fresh as morning dew on fluttering daffodils in the breeze (thanks Willy) . It is something that you may love too if you are looking for a casual type of bag that can carry a good amount of stuff that has an urban and sophisticated air about it--think Crocodile Dundee in a corner office or "I think I'll spend the day hiking Manhattan." Some people bellyache that this bag is too heavy, but I think this is the trade off of having a bag that is much more durable and manly than the so called "European" styles--Seinfeld comes to mind. I for one, although a proper metrosexual male, do not take pride in my effeminate stylings, so I appreciate this masculine, functional, and fashionable accessory. Concerning its weight, I posit that this issue is easily forgotten to the fact that once this bag is broken in--quickly I might add--it feels very comfortable. The organic material of leather seems to hug my back. One final thought, concerning the straps at the top opening of the bag, I suggest simply removing them as I have done with my bag. I have seen one review of this bag where the Squared Backpack in the review developed a "lean" to it in the sitting position--I feel that this "lean" was a result of the straps pulling and folding the top of the bag in an asymmetrical manner (if you aren't anal retentive like me just ignore this part). I have no issue with water entering the bag as the front cover does a more than adequate job of keeping rainwater out. Instead, I loop the strap around a corner D-ring and use it as a key holder with a carabiner style clip. HAPPY URBAN HIKING.

Beautiful update! I owned an original and this update takes into account any feedback I would have provided. I have also barrowed one of the round bags for multiple weeks which is close resemblance to the square bag and found it extremely comfortable. Would love to see this made in a medium for those of us with smaller frames or who need something a bit more compact for city life. Te front pocket is a great addition pulled from the original version. I am sold. Put me at the top of the preorder list for a medium, cash in hand!

My Birthday is not for 2 weeks! The package arrived early though and because I let my wife touch her "Love 41" bag 2 weeks before her birthday I was given permission to take one fleeting glimpse and a very little touch (of the bag not the wife) as well. Now I'm lost and confused, for just a moment I felt somehow complete a whole person at last but then it went back into the box until my birthday. I now sit at my computer looking at the photo's on the saddleback site. It's like looking at someone else's wedding photo's! Ok, I'm not that tragic, but I can't wait till my birthday to start packing my new backpack. By the way, the moment you open the box, the leather smell fills the room. I'll write again when I open it for the last time.

Obviously the bag looks great, and is sturdy, but I was astonished about just how much stuff I could fit into it, even before cramming. I was originally worried about whether the bag would be large enough for my needs, whether it would have enough variety of compartments to sort different items, and whether it would be comfortable. Now that I have the bag, I can fit every thing from my old backpack, plus extras, and I could still get a little creative with the space to pack a spare shirt or shorts on occasion. The interior pockets, are more than enough to sort odds and ends, and the straps are way more comfortable than I anticipated - though I haven't worn the pack for long periods of time yet. I will be needing a few small pouches to sort a few things, but that's just the Boy Scout in me wanting to be over prepared. I might even buy a cable bag (or two) to help me sort things for the main pouch. Honestly, I can't say enough nice things about this bag.

A great pack that will last a lifetime and then some. This pack is great for the office or for traveling. I researched before I purchased and knew what to expect. The pack is everything I hoped and expected. Great buckles, great stitching, great fit, finish and quite adjustable. I followed the recommended strap break instructions - only took about 20 minutes and made a big difference. Only suggestion is for the addition of a internal key strap - I knew it didn't have one when I bought it so as I said, not disappointed. I think an internal key strap would be a worthwhile addition.
