    Backpack with Character!

A great pack that will last a lifetime and then some. This pack is great for the office or for traveling. I researched before I purchased and knew what to expect. The pack is everything I hoped and expected. Great buckles, great stitching, great fit, finish and quite adjustable. I followed the recommended strap break instructions - only took about 20 minutes and made a big difference. Only suggestion is for the addition of a internal key strap - I knew it didn't have one when I bought it so as I said, not disappointed. I think an internal key strap would be a worthwhile addition.

    Oops!

I think I goofed. I was attracted by the glowing reviews, and I bought a backpack about 4 months ago. Although I love the quality, I find that I never use it. Two reasons: first, it is just too heavy! Second, the shoulder straps are ridiculously stiff and difficult to use. This backpack is a case of manly appeal taken to such absurd lengths that the product sits in the closet instead of on my back. Sorry, Dave, I love your company ethos, but this bag misses the mark.

    perfect "Business" backpack

I have XL briefcase. I saw this backpack prior to the new front pocket BP and had to have it. It holds 17 inch Mac easily. I like a back pack rather than briefcase even for professional situations. Everything fits well. I can carry 2 computers if I have to. I have used in social situations (like festivals) and got many compliments. I highly recommend it. I am a sucker, so I will get the larger front pocket BP when it comes out. I have been collecting tobacco brown products and I love that color. Still looks new although the few scratches look cool. WISH DAVE WOULD GIVE A FREQUENT FLYER DISCOUNT!

    More spacious than you think

This is the first product review I've ever made. To start, I own the large suitcase, large waterbag, duffle, beast, large briefcase, large wallet, desk pads, and this backpack. All in coffee brown. I only wish these products were available when I was younger and living overseas in China, Pakistan, UK, and Russia. I purchased these products in anticipation for my next adventure. I use each one of them except the suitcase and beast which sit in my living room, "waiting their turn". As for the backpack. I think this backpack is much sturdier than the others SB sells. It was very stiff and "boxy" when I purchased it and I know people question the size. However, I broke it in with kettlebells and weights on long hikes. I also filled the pockets with items that stretched the leather and increased the size considerably. I put a large first aid kit in the front pocket and it stretched to around 4 times its original size. All 3 pockets now bulge (nicely) and make the pack look like a traditional one. I debated placing the pockets in a hot water bath for ease of stretching but for now I am holding off. During my long walks I recieve many compliments, mainly from really young people who want to know where I got it. So the bottom line of this review is not to count this pack out due to storage capabilities. Stretching is easily accomplished. If you have the courage, select items you would like your pack size to be, dip your entire bag in a hot bath, immediately insert your items into the pockets, etc and watch them easily stretch. Word of warning, there is no going back on the stretch if you do this. When the bag is wet and filled/stretched, let it dry. A hot day will help. I know this technique is not for everyone and the thought of leather and water will not sit well with everyone, but it works. Once it dries, you can condition it as you see fit. Who knows, Dave may read this and not even post it because I recommend soaking one of his beautiful bags.

    Give it Time

I'm thinking, "time, give me time, give me one more moment in time...," but I digress and I know, I know the last thing you want is to hear me sing--even if it is just in my own head. When I first recieved this bag, I was like--MAN, this bag is huge! It was days before a trip oversees and I just didn't have the time and inclination to return it for something smaller. I, then, therefore decided to risk it and try my luck hoping the airline agents wouldn't bark at its heft and try to check it. In the end, all my worries came to naught as I seemlessly navigated my way through terminal to terminal and the Squared Backpack and me triumphed through our voyage and its christening as a world traveller. It's been weeks now since that rocky introduction like two lonely souls meeting apprehensively for the first time and turning into a love that is genuine and timeless. Okay, okay...you don't want me to muse on romance either? I hear ya', this stuff turns my stomach too. My point is, after the intitial breaking in period of a few weeks, what was once cumbersome, uncomfortable and unweildy has morphed into a different animal. This bag now feels like it was custom made for my back. It now comforms to the curves--and man do I have manly curves--of my back. It is a true pleasure to carry. In fact, I am now noticing that I'm adopting narcissisistic tendencies losing myself in time and gazing in deep admiration at myself, er--the bag, before mirrors. Thanks Saddleback team for introducing us, we will send you a pic of our first child. Loving her, Peter C.
