Materials Used in this Thin Leather Briefcase

Our leather is the strongest we can find (full-grain leather). It still has all of the grain on it. We line the leather briefcase with pigskin for even more strength. The thread is unbelievably strong industrial marine grade UV resistant polyester thread, and our custom hardware is 316 Stainless Steel. It's the metal of choice when your life depends on it. We consider every single detail when making a leather bag guaranteed to last 100 years.

Made with the Best Full Grain Leather

Our Thin Front Pocket Briefcase is made out of the toughest, full-grain leather. This is the top layer of the hide and has all of the grain, making it tougher and more water-resistant. Most companies will use a cheaper, thinner leather that is easy to process and falls apart in a few years.

The Different Colors of the Thin Front Pocket Briefcase

The natural color of Tobacco (tan, light brown) might be the most common. It has a casual look but develops a beautiful patina over time. Some people prefer a different style, so for those, we also offer this leather in Dark Coffee Brown and Chestnut (reddish brown).

D-Rings on the Bottom

The bottom of the thin leather briefcase has four d-rings that can be used to hold anything from your umbrella to a rolled blanket or tent and use it like a knapsack. Think outside the office, away from business; you can look professional or casual with this rugged leather briefcase. It is a great bag to have on your back when you go hiking, fishing, traveling, or into the office.

The Perfect Size Thin Leather Briefcase for a 15" or 16" Laptop

This slim leather briefcase is big enough to hold everything you need but not too big or bulky. The dimensions of this briefcase are 15" x 11" and only 3 1/2" thick, so it fits up to 16" laptops. We make larger bags, but not everyone is trying to carry a 17" laptop along with a gaming chair in their briefcase.

Perfect Amount of Pockets

These thin leather briefcases have a main compartment that is the perfect size for a 15" or 16" laptop and a notebook, with room for a few more books and Dude Wipes. Two inside pockets for pens and pencils. On the front there are two pockets that buckle closed, great for chargers, cables, etc. Behind those pockets are hidden pockets that make it easy access for smaller things.

Back Magazine Pocket

Yes, we even put a back magazine pocket in this briefcase. You know, when you are on that long flight and just want to unwind with some Field and Stream, or maybe you want to catch up on the latest National Geographic. Now you have a place to put it.

Detachable Shoulder Strap

Not everyone likes a shoulder strap on their leather briefcase, and sometimes you just need a quality thick strap of full grain leather for other things. So in our leather briefcases, we make the shoulder straps detachable and also adjustable. I can't tell you how many times I've used a bag strap to tie down luggage.

What Makes a Saddleback Leather Briefcase Worth It?

We care about much more than making money. Sure, that is required to keep a company running, but we care more about making quality leather goods. This is the reason we use only the highest quality materials, and the most durable construction methods possible. Making a difference is our goal in every life that we touch with our designs, so we take it seriously when we say that we will warranty your leather bag for 100 years. Think of it this way: when you buy a Saddleback Leather briefcase, sure, you're buying it for yourself... but you're really just breaking it in for whoever you plan on passing it down to.

    Most Impressive!

Thanks to Collette for her suggestion to consider this bag. This bag is BEAUTIFUL. The compliments are flowing indeed. The leather smell is almost addictive. In my opinion, the bag is not particularly heavy, and it has enough room for my Mac (13 inch) and materials. I also purchased 1 matching cable bag for stuff, but the 2 front pockets are spacious for goodies you might have to bring along. This bag is phenomenal and I am beyond pleased with my purchase. I see it is sold out now....I know why.

    An Experience

I am rating this brief with five stars because six are not available. I really love this bag. I love the way it looks, I love the way it smells and perhaps most of all, I love the way it sounds; the way thick leather pieces collide when the bag is opened or closed...the way the straps sound pulling through the buckles...the harmony of all the parts as I throw the bag over my shoulder...sublime. Initially I was concerned about the brief's depth. I thought it could use and extra inch or so and an interior divider (I would still like to see this option). But after traveling with it quite a bit in the few weeks since it arrived, the depth has not been an issue. (Without lots of room to spare, it travels with a MacBook Air, an iPad (both in Saddleback covers), a Kindle, two notebooks, two thin'ish file folders, an umbrella and various odds and ends (love the pen holder and hidden pockets).) Be prepared to talk about this bag, lots of folks will want too. This brief screams quality and mixed with superlative design, it does not go unnoticed.

    My Favorite Bag in Decades

This is my third bag from Saddleback. My very first bag was the Classic Medium briefcase. To begin with, I love that bag and I probably got 2-3 compliments a week on it. A number of people have asked where I bought it, and I freely link them the website. Like some of the other reviewers, though, it was very heavy and sometimes impractical for me (I'm a lawyer), and while it was great for long extended court visits or depositions, it was not so good on a daily basis. So on a complete whim, I decided to take a chance at using the Thin Briefcase and see if that would be better for every day use. This is by far the best purchase of a briefcase I've ever made. Without exaggeration, the minute I opened the box, I loved it. It's exactly the right weight; has enough pockets and openings to store necessary items (the classic is devoid of this) and it looks great. What is the best thing, though, is I can actually carry a Macbook Air and an iPad in it, and the briefcase adds little extra weight. This bag truly is a god-send. I still love my Classic, and use it whenever I'm in trial and need to carry many bulky items. But this bag truly is worth every penny I spent. I think if you need something that's good for daily use, this is the bag to use.

    Finally!!!

I have been looking FOR YEARS to find this bag. After buying a couple of different (and excellent) Saddleback products, this is THE ONE. While I have enjoyed backpacks and messenger bags to carry my work around, I had been thinking that it was time I tried looking more professional. The very first time I brought it down to get some work done in a coffee shop, one of the regulars, an elderly woman, jokingly remarked, "Well! YOU must be pretty important! Just look at that bag!" Ha! The construction and design of Saddleback products is always exceptional, but this bag also fits the bill when it comes to my size specifications. I can't tell you how grateful I am and how satisfied I am with your customer service as well! Thank you!!

    My New Favorite Thing

I started looking for a bag for work several months ago and happened upon Saddleback's website. After reading about the quality of the bags from the website descriptions, watching just about all of Dave's videos, and reading many reviews I decided to buy one. Once it arrived I found it to be exactly as it was described on the website. The leather (mine is DCB) is sturdy, thick, and smells AMAZING. The natural pigskin liner provides a nice contrast. All of the buckles, straps, and hardware are heavy-duty. After examining it I could see why Saddleback gives a 100 year guarantee. As other reviewers have noted my bag was stiff when it arrived, but it has broken in nicely in the last few months. I don't think I'll be wearing out this bag anytime soon. Now that I've been using the bag for about 6 months I am a little embarrassed at how much I like it. I really like the look of it, feel of the leather, and the smell. It just smells amazing. So much so that I find myself taking a deep sniff just about every time I load or unload it. Bottom line--these are great bags. If you are on the fence about spending the money just do it. You won't be disappointed. BTW, I ordered the medium notepad holder to use at work and love it too. Looks great and, of course, smells amazing.
