Best Bag I've Ever Owned
Briefcase
Slim Leather Briefcase
The front pocket holds my iPad. I place paper-sketches and other important paperwork in the pocket behind. Larger, bulkier items (binders, lap top, cords, pen/pencil bag, etc.) fit nicely in the main area. The large interior pocket holds my sketchbook (although with the new iPad, it is getting less use). I put magazines and other reading material in the rear pocket to access when I have a little down time (social media is a soul-sucking, mind-numbing waste of time). The two side pockets are not used often, by choice. I can use them if I want. I do have the shoulder strap looped for "back-pack" carry, but rarely use it like that. It feels nice just carrying it like a case (and the looks of envy from other professionals occur on a regular basis).
In summary, this is an equally impressive piece compared to the one I already have. I understand that work and life changes over time. One thing that hasn't: Saddleback Leather. It is, and has always been, the best around. I am honored to carry such a fine piece of craftmanship everyday.
I gave it to my husband for our 20th anniversary! He loves it!!
Amazing!

Design of the Leather Laptop Briefcase
The Slim Leather Briefcase is super functional and over-engineered without a single breakable part like magnets, snaps, or zippers. Everywhere there is a stress point, we reinforce it with rivets and hidden polyester strapping. It's built with the largest pieces of leather we could design it with to minimize the number of stitch holes, and we sew at only five stitches per inch. The leather briefcase's interior is soft, light tan pigskin leather, so light reflects inside, and it's easier to find things in low light. Darker-colored interiors are just not as easy to own. I know it's a small detail, but if you get enough of those little 1% details in a row, it adds up. It makes sense to us, and it is just another sign we thought of every detail in this design.
Materials in our Leather Briefcases
Our leather is the strongest we can find (full-grain boot leather, but thicker), and the pigskin lining is stronger than cow leather. If I'm ever president, I will pass legislation that all leather briefcases are made with full grain leather. Our hardware is made of 316 Stainless Steel which is over-the-top strong. The thread is a strong industrial marine-grade polyester thread in which the sun doesn't deteriorate like nylon does when it hits it.
Full Grain Leather Laptop Briefcases
Full Grain Leather is used because it's the toughest leather we can find. It is the strongest leather that money can buy because none of the grain has been shaven off to get rid of blemishes and scars. Instead, we leave all the grain on there and cut around the bad parts of the hide.
Lining Material in our Laptop Briefcases
The lining material we use in our briefcases is also super tough. We line our briefcases with pigskin leather. Pigskin is much stronger than cowhide. It is also smoother, so your laptop will easily slide in and out.
Stitching in our Leather Briefcases
The stitching of our leather briefcases is done with the strongest thread available, marine grade polyester thread. This type of thread can withstand the elements and will not deteriorate in the sun as nylon thread does. Polyester is horrible as a bed sheet, but it doesn't get any better for an application like this. It is like hot sauce; it's great to dip your chips in, but not so great as an eye drop. That analogy might be a little out there, but I think you'll get it.
Functionality of these Leather Briefcases
This leather briefcase is actually a functional leather backpack for when you're commuting or walking in the airport and need your hands free. It even has a false bottom to hide your passport and spare cash. Hopefully, you don't use it to hide drugs. Drugs are bad, and you shouldn't use them. On the exterior, there is a big wide front pocket under the flap with an almost as big pocket behind it. It fits laptops, notepads, and files. On the inside, there is a big back interior laptop sleeve for 16" laptops and iPad Pros.
Yes, It Doubles As A Leather Backpack
It is as simple as unhooking the leather shoulder strap, then pushing it through the ring on the top, and then connecting the ends to the bottom D-Rings, and now you have a leather backpack. These backpacks are perfect for times like a long hike, if you are also trying to carry your luggage, or if you just want to give your shoulders a break.
Device Pockets
The large front pocket can fit smaller laptops, notebooks, files, and other paperwork. Behind that exterior pocket is a hidden pocket with almost just as large a capacity that you can use to even carry another device in.
Interior Pockets
Inside, you will find that we placed two side pockets for pens and pencils; we put one on each end so it would be easier to grab whatever you need without fumbling around.
A Side Pocket For Your Water Bottle
There is a side pocket to slide your water bottle right into without having to open up the whole bag. This makes it easy to carry and access your water or whatever your preferences of drinks might be easy, without even taking the briefcase off your shoulder. But, of course, it is not just for water bottles; you can also use it to hold your phone, power hub, or whatever accessories you feel fit in there.
Key Strap
We also placed a key strap that falls right into the briefcases, so it will be super easy to grab your keys and go. No more fishing around for your keys at the bottom of your bag. Not everyone likes to fill their pockets with things like keys and change and such, so we thought of every detail in the design of this leather briefcase.
Main Compartment Laptop Area
You will find a perfect pocket for your 16" laptop in the main compartment. With the softer light brown pigskin lining, it will slide right in. Of course, this briefcase can hold quite a bit more than just your laptop, but we designed it with business people in mind who travel often and need to have their hands free.
A Leather Briefcase with a False Bottom
Below your main interior compartment is a strip of leather that makes a false bottom. This serves to add strength to support your laptop, as well as a hidden area. You can keep extra cash, a passport, ID, a gold coaster, whatever you like can go down there, and if you get robbed, they might take everything out of your briefcase, but they usually will not take the briefcase.
A Bedtime Story Continued from the Flight Bag page
So we're on a family vacation at this place called Mike's Camp on an island off the Northern Coast of Kenya, 20 miles from Somalia. It was super cool, and time to unplug, so I left the briefcase in Rwanda but brought a leather backpack and my Indiana Satchel.
On our last full day there, at 7 am, we met a couple from Scotland who had sailed to the camp on a dhow, and their dreadlocked Kenyan captain was with them. I went over to introduce myself since he seemed like a nice enough fellow, but I knew something was probably wrong since he already had a beer in his hand and his eyes were empty.
Just after noon, coming back from a seashell hunting trip gone bad, the family wouldn't stop whining about it because "the sand was too hot" and "we don't have enough water," we met the captain again at the dock. So I walked up to him and told him, "I just feel like God wants me to tell you something." He drew close and replied, "Go ahead and tell me, man." So I did. I told him, "Omar, I feel like God wants me to tell you that he's really in love with you and that he thinks about you all the time and that he really wants to have a personal relationship with you." He stared at me for a minute and then asked, "Can we talk about this later tonight after dinner? I am really interested in what you said". I agreed.
And then he said to me, "Hey, I'm going to sail the dhow over to a little village later today for something. Would you like to sail with your family there with me? There's a nice beach for the kids to play on". So Suzette and I had heard of a little village not far away on the island that was supposed to be cool, so we accepted his kind offer to sail us there.
Without knowing, he took us to a little village on the mainland where the police the day before told us that the terrorist group al-Shabaab was alive and well. We knew that witchcraft was strong there, and then he told me the recent history of foreign tourists being abducted, dragged to Somalia, and murdered¦ but not until we got on shore and started walking. Finally, he paraded our barefoot family through the village on the road directly to Somalia, 20 miles away. Read the rest of the story on the Indiana Satchel page.
