We only use the toughest leather we can get (thick full-grain leather), the highest grade of hide you can buy, to make all of our leather laptop bags. The grain is the toughest and most water-resistant part of the hide. So when companies sand or split off the top part of the hide to get rid of scars and blemishes so they can use up more of the hide, they're getting rid of the toughest part.
Yes, full-grain leather is the quarterback getting all of the attention. But the other materials we use is what the over-engineering thing is all about. We line our leather briefcases with pigskin, which is more durable than the full-grain leather. The hardware is the ridiculous 316 stainless steel (rated to hold up to 750 lbs). We sew everything together with a UV-resistant marine-grade polyester thread (it's the same exact threat that's used to sew together ship sails and parachutes... you know, things your life depends on).
This thin leather laptop bag is our smallest leather briefcase and is wide enough to fit any 14" MacBook Pro or laptop. The 2019 15" Macbook Pro fits in the main compartment but not inside the soft laptop sleeve pocket. Two interior flat front pockets to hold a charger, pens, cables, and papers. There aren't a lot of features and functionality, but that's on purpose. It's just a simple briefcase that is the perfect size for your smaller laptops.

I downsized from the front pocket brief and have found this to be a bit tight. I have a Dell XPS 13 new and the iPad Pro in the sleeve and it’s a tight fit. A couple travel accessories, wallet, ear pods etc and this bag is jammed. Love that it has more pockets up front than most of the other bags though.
This bag was my anniversary gift. I had used a flight bag for my every day bag before this one. Now I only use this bag for my daily use and my flight bag for travel. The Thirteener is packed almost as a solid brick of my tools. I have my 13" macbook pro, my iPad pro in the SBL leather sleeve, my back up battery, with cables, my various snacks, my power supply for the mac and my headset. I also keep papers and money all over the place in there. The bag is packed solid. There is no air breaking up the items, but nothing is too tight and everything comes out easily. This makes for an easy carry even after a long walk. I also, when not working, can go on outings with my 15" macbook pro in the main sleeve and the iPad in the back. my kindle, and other general daily tools, my PS4 controller, and a back up rain shell (rilled up and packed at the top). Overall much happier with this bag than any other ones I have ever used. It completes everything I need from a bag. I would warn to not polish it right after you get it with a kitchen hand towel. It will rip the dye right off the bag. I learned that lesson; ruined my bag from the first day. It looks like I have had it far longer than I actually have. Disappointed but it still does the job, it just looks pretty messed up now. I wish I could have a do-over. This bag is perfect for me.

Looks great...lighter than some other SB bags...perfect for the work day. I keep a 13” MacBook Pro, a SB file holder and a SB portfolio in it. Plus a charger, cords, pen set. Not much more can fit and all of that is snug, but it is everything I need for the day.
