We only use the toughest leather we can get (thick full-grain leather), the highest grade of hide you can buy, to make all of our leather laptop bags. The grain is the toughest and most water-resistant part of the hide. So when companies sand or split off the top part of the hide to get rid of scars and blemishes so they can use up more of the hide, they're getting rid of the toughest part.
Yes, full-grain leather is the quarterback getting all of the attention. But the other materials we use is what the over-engineering thing is all about. We line our leather briefcases with pigskin, which is more durable than the full-grain leather. The hardware is the ridiculous 316 stainless steel (rated to hold up to 750 lbs). We sew everything together with a UV-resistant marine-grade polyester thread (it's the same exact threat that's used to sew together ship sails and parachutes... you know, things your life depends on).
This thin leather laptop bag is our smallest leather briefcase and is wide enough to fit any 14" MacBook Pro or laptop. The 2019 15" Macbook Pro fits in the main compartment but not inside the soft laptop sleeve pocket. Two interior flat front pockets to hold a charger, pens, cables, and papers. There aren't a lot of features and functionality, but that's on purpose. It's just a simple briefcase that is the perfect size for your smaller laptops.

I am obsessed with leather products, and Saddleback makes the best quality stuff (in my opinion). I did not see this model when I bought my other Sadlleback briefcase, I wish i had. I first purchased the slim leather briefcase, and of course it is a beautiful briefcase, but it's far from slim. It was just too large and heavy for everyday carry. However, this thirteneer is exactly what I have been looking for. I typically carry the Saddleback document folder with files, a notebook, an iPad pro and a 13" laptop with some other small items. I highly recommend this product.
Have had a Thirteen now for a few years and it just doesn't wear and simply improves with age. Every now and then I put a bit of leather care in it and that's it! It's probably the most over-engineered bag I have ever owned, attracts a lot of attention and is going to outlast me!
Just received my entirely way over built thirteener. I own several leatherback products. This bag will be my main carrier to the office as well as same day airline trips to and from home.
Bought this to carry daily with some work files (B5 binder, pen case, pencil case, day planner) and my wallet and keys, and it's perfect. Subtle and professional looking enough for business use. The pockets stretch out a little to give it a little more volume than it might appear to have at first, and the strap is heavyweight and attractive if you choose to use it. A brilliant little bag.
