We only use the toughest leather we can get (thick full-grain leather), the highest grade of hide you can buy, to make all of our leather laptop bags. The grain is the toughest and most water-resistant part of the hide. So when companies sand or split off the top part of the hide to get rid of scars and blemishes so they can use up more of the hide, they're getting rid of the toughest part.
Yes, full-grain leather is the quarterback getting all of the attention. But the other materials we use is what the over-engineering thing is all about. We line our leather briefcases with pigskin, which is more durable than the full-grain leather. The hardware is the ridiculous 316 stainless steel (rated to hold up to 750 lbs). We sew everything together with a UV-resistant marine-grade polyester thread (it's the same exact threat that's used to sew together ship sails and parachutes... you know, things your life depends on).
This thin leather laptop bag is our smallest leather briefcase and is wide enough to fit any 14" MacBook Pro or laptop. The 2019 15" Macbook Pro fits in the main compartment but not inside the soft laptop sleeve pocket. Two interior flat front pockets to hold a charger, pens, cables, and papers. There aren't a lot of features and functionality, but that's on purpose. It's just a simple briefcase that is the perfect size for your smaller laptops.

Since I retired, my large Classic Briefcase is a lot of bag for running errands. I wanted a small manbag in which I could carry my "pocket stuff" that doesn't fit in my pockets. Like a book, a pocket knife, phone, charging cables, and a small bottle of water, and an umbrella. I considered the Rounded Satchel but I also wanted to be able to carry my 13 inch Macbook Pro when I needed to. This bag is perfect. The laptop fits perfectly when I need it and it's not too much bag otherwise. With just one buckle and no D rings it is as light as possible for a Saddleback bag of this size. I wouldn't mind an external bottle pocket but my 500 ml (16oz) bottle fits inside without a problem. The bag gets compliments all the time. Love this thing! They are already fighting over it and I am not even dead!

I got my classic briefcase to celebrate my PhD, and then 7y later my wife bought me the thirteener to celebrate getting tenure. While I loved my briefcase, as my job became more digital and less paper-based, the briefcase became overkill. 2 years after getting my thirteener, it has become my everyday bag (Holding my Macbook air, iPad, chargers, external battery, wallet, keys, rescue inhale, and usually a small stack of papers), while my briefcase has transformed into my weekend bag when I am taking a trip. I still love both pieces, but this little bag has been the best!
