It was considered one of the most amazing leather wallet - Not anymore..
I ordered two Front ID Wallets on Feb. 2015, about 9 months ago - Chestnut & Dark Coffee Brown. Chestnut has the old pigskin lining, and Dark Coffee Brown has the new pigskin lining. They told me the difference between the two is indistinguishable. After 9 months of use, the new pigskin has a huge effect on the overall quality of the wallet. The "old pigskin" after 9 months of use stayed in its original condition or even better - tough, durable and no deterioration of the quality. The "new pigskin" lining, however, after 9 months of use has changed the shape of the quality. Due to the new soft lining, the part where you place your money looks deteriorated. By that, its shape is not the same. I can prove that with some of the pictures I took. If you keep opening the gap to put your money in it, in the long-run, the shape is going to change and stay open and it'll look different (ugly) and it looks like some cheap wallet that you can purchase down at Macy's for $20. I really want to love this wallet - the design, the leather, and the duration of it. The "new pigskin lining" really ruined everything for me. It made the quality look cheap and 2nd handed. I hope I am not the only one who feels this way.

Smell the Cow!
This is a great wallet for carrying just what you need, it will actually carry more than what you need. The quality is second to none! Its a little tight at first, will take some break in time (about a week) I purchased the tobaco color and it already has started to get a great patina on it. If you just need to carry a couple of credit cards and an ID or 2 this is perfect, can't carry a wad of cash in it, but I usually carry my huge wad of cash in my front pocket. What I carry: 2 credit cards in one front sleeve- 2 rewards cards in other front sleeve- Insurance card and gas card in pocket sleeve- a couple of tight folded bills in cash sleeve and DL and CCW in ID window. Oh one more thing, it has a very addicting SMELL! Often ask why Im walking around smelling my wallet but thats for another story. Will be buying some more stuff!!

Carbon - Nice Wallet!
I ordered this after seeing many great reviews online and recently reading a blog on a EDC knife site, where someone asked for suggestions for a minimalist wallet. Although some folks suggested other wallets, the majority recommended the Saddleback and the discussion kept coming back to this wallet. I previously had Smallets from a competitor and was satisfied with those overall. My regret is that I didn't discover Saddleback earlier because this wallet tops my others by far. It is very well made and sturdy without being too stiff and bulky. I really like that the ID window is not covered because those tend to distort the view. I also like the extra pocket behind the ID for a secondary ID or whatever. Carbon wasn't my first choice in color but DCB and Tobacco weren't available at the time. Carbon is actually nicer in person than in the pics where it tends to look more smokey and washed out. In person it looks like a slightly worn black and has a nice texture. The Small Bifold is my choice for now (front pocket) but I like to switch once in while and will go to this wallet at some point in the future when I'm feeling extremely efficient. Thanks again!

Like all good things, it takes time
When you first start using this wallet, you'll be tempted to jump to the conclusion that it's too small and doesn't hold more than an ID and a couple of cards. This is true. Because this is some stout, sturdy leather. It needs to break in. The product description mentions the number of cards it will hold after breaking in a couple of times, and for good reason. I've had mine for several weeks now. When I first used it, I struggled to get more than my DL, work security card and a couple of debit/credit cards. But after some use, I've found that I have been able to add a card here & there as the leather softens a bit. I now have 7 credit/debit cards, my DL, work security card, and medical insurance cards. I'm using an extra credit card and insurance cards to help break in the money slot so I can carry a few bills. But I rarely carry cash, so I'm in no big rush. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that with several items in this wallet, my DL in the ID window bends quite a bit. Like I said, this is a minor complaint - it's a DL, and I haven't been 16 for longer than I care to remember, so the appearance of my DL is about as low on my list of things to be concerned about as possible. I'm looking forward to getting old with this wallet.

Awesome sauce.
This is my second SBL purchase. Last year, I bought three gorgeous luggage tags. Truth is, I want very much to buy a medium water bag, preferably in tobacco. I'm in the military and travel a lot, and try to get away with my family whenever I can beyond that. The water bag would do wonders replacing my crap multi-hundred dollar, wheeled luggage bags from London Fog that are rapidly disintegrating under normal wear and tear, let alone baggage handler abuse. But, sadly, $720 is a steep hurdle on a government salary, so I'll have to keep saving for the water bag. In the meantime, gotta do my best to "leatherize" the London Fogs by adding some SBL luggage tags to replace the ugly-branded frequent flyer tags, or the paper stick-ons from the airport. The SBLs sure looked awesome and are incredibly durable, so I thought I'd take the next step and replace my black Fossil ID wallet with a SBL ID wallet. I bought the SBL Front Pocket ID Wallet in Dark Coffee Brown, and let me tell you, it rocks. It is true, unadulterated awesomeness. I bought the ID wallet intending to replace that three or four year old Fossil ID wallet that was losing its stitches and whose ID window had fallen completely out. Little did I realize, in buying the SBL, I probably just bought the last ID wallet I will EVER need to buy. Yes, the quality is that good. And yes, it is that noticeable as soon as you open it. And yes, it is even more noticeable with age and use. I've been using that wallet every single day since March 2015 when I bought it. It looks better with age, it feels better with age, it's functionality improves with age, and I can't imagine I'll need another one any time soon. The ID window easily holds 2-3 cards; I hold 3 in there without unreasonable stretching. There are two credit card slots on the exterior. I only store one card in each slot -- a charge card I pay off every month, and an ATM card. That's it. I suppose you could fit more than one into each of those slots, but I haven't tried it and don't plan to. I prefer ultra-slim wallets and the carrying of as little plastic and excessive paraphernalia as possible. I did find these slots were probably the most stiff when I bought it, and it was difficult to get cards in and out of. A week or so of use changed that and it's never been a problem again. Then there's an interior pocket which holds a little more. The ID wallet isn't perfect, as no things in this humanly world are. Except, of course, for dogs. My gripes, though that sounds stronger than I really feel about it, are two-fold: 1. The leather area that covers your IDs is thick, measuring from the border edge of the wallet to where you can see the visible part of the ID. It makes much of the ID itself not visible without pulling it out. You can see this in SBL's photo above where it chops off half the face, and much of the information on the sides of the driver's license they show. Is this a problem? Not necessarily. I'd much prefer most of the ID be visible--I always carry my military ID outermost, my driver's license under that, and a permit or other ID card behind that. It'd be ideal to be able to show the whole wallet with the military ID showing without taking it out, but really, it's not a biggie. And with just a little tiny bit of aging -- 4-6 weeks of daily use -- the leather had softened enough and shaped the ID window enough around the thickness of my standard three cards to make it easy to slip the IDs in and out easily. BTW -- I don't understand how some other reviewers found ID cards slipped too easily...? If you've overstuffed it for a long period of time and then reduced the number of ID cards in that slot, perhaps I can see it happening. Or maybe their product was defective. Mine does not allow the cards to fall out even by shaking. They are easy to put your thumb on, however, and slide out the end whenever needed. 2. The interior compartment holds very little cash. Anything more than five or six bills will really stretch its usefulness for cash carry. I rarely carry a single dollar anymore (bad habits in the age of charge cards and finally being able to "thumb a hundred bucks" with a phone...props to anyone who knows what movie that's from). When I need to carry more, I'll use a full size wallet or a separate money clip, but in general, I'm fine with a few to several bills in the center compartment or, more commonly, just storing a couple extra cards instead. Cash, btw, sticks out just a couple centimeters from the edge of the wallet's interior pocket. I presume this is for ease of pulling it out. I wish it was just a tad shorter, but again, not a deal killer at all. Final verdict: 4.5 stars. it doesn't allow halves, so I round up for great products and down for bad ones :)
