This wallet was built with full grain leather. The grain is the most durable part of the hide and it lives along the top 1/4 of the leather hide. It ages richly and is very water resistant. But most designers are told to save as much money as possible making their wallets and therefore need to use every inch of the hide. Instead of cutting around the scars and blemishes and throwing 25% of the leather in the trash, the tannery shaves off the top layer (watch how they shave it here at minute 6:30) with all of the scars and slight imperfections so they can use almost 100% of the hide to make wallets out of. The problem is that they shave off most or all of the toughest part of the hide and the wallets end up being junk and falling apart in a short time.
Then we line our wallets with pigskin, which is a tougher leather than the cow leather. It's how we can offer a 100-year Warranty. And then we sew it with our tough marine grade polyester thread. It's what they sew parachutes and ship sails with. If a life depends on it, they use our thread. In between the leather and pigskin is a thin layer of Radio Frequency ID blocking materials to stop a thief from scanning your wallet in a crowd and stealing your identification off your credit cards. It happens all the time.
