Read MoreThis leather wallet was built with what is called full grain leather. The grain is the most durable part of the hide and it's basically like the shingles of a roof. It ages richly and is very water resistant. But most designers or manufacturers are told to save as much money as possible making their wallets and so need to use every inch of the leather hide. Instead of cutting around the scars and blemishes and throwing 25% of the leather into the trash, the tannery shaves off the top layer with all of the scars and slight imperfections so they can use almost 100% of the hide to make leather wallets. The problem is that they shave off the shingles of your house; the toughest part of the hide. And that's why you're looking for the best leather wallet now. They become junk and fall apart in a short time (5 - 10 years).
---As if our leather wasn't enough, we line our wallets with pigskin, which is tougher than the cow leather. It's how we can offer a 100-year Warranty. And then we sew it with our special German marine grade polyester thread. It's what they sew parachutes and ship sails with. If a life depends on the seams not falling apart, they use the same thread. In between the leather and pigskin is a thin layer of Radio Frequency ID (RFID) blocking material to stop thieves from scanning your wallet in a crowd and stealing your ID off of the credit cards. It happens all the time. Google it.
Have used this wallet for about six months. Love the Tobacco color. Amazingly, you don't feel this huge wallet in your back pocket. The large footprint relieves the pressure points. Have driven all day and forgot I had it in the back pocket of my jeans. The tobacco has aged very nicely. Disclaimer, I am a bit biased, have the front pocket backpack and the heavy belts in all three colors. Have a high appreciation for Saddleback quality!

He complains about buying a wallet every year and all of them giving out. For fathers day I decided I wanted to get him something that last, I got him the Large Bifold Wallet. At first he was a little hesitant about it cause the pockets seemed tight but after he realized they stretch to fit and that he can fit all his junk cards in his one wallet! Haha.

For the past 15 years, I've carried a large Hartmann vegetable-tanned wallet in natural Canadian belting leather. It is almost the exact same design and color as the SBL Large Bifold Wallet in Tobacco Brown. As my Hartmann's good looks were beginning to fade, I started looking everywhere for this same two row design (Hartmann discontinued it years ago). I only found two options - SBL's and a black wallet on hammacher.com of unknown quality leather and cheap stitching. The very detailed product page for the SBL wallet made the decision very easy. I think I paid around $120 for the Hartmann wallet 15 years ago, and it was worth every penny. I could carry it for another 15 years, but I just happened upon the SBL website and got excited about upgrading, since it has been so difficult to find this same style. For anyone who thinks the large wallet is overkill, let me tell you that it is well worth the switch. Your wallet will be thinner and more comfortable than it has been with the same number of cards, because there is less overlap. Also, the two row design allows a natural flex point half way down that allows the wallet to cradle your butt when you wear it without bending any cards. Buy the Leather Bifold Wallet in the large size. You will not regret it. Personally, I like the lightest color (Tobacco Brown), because it shows the most natural characteristics of the leather and should develop the most attractive patina as the years pass by. While I have a few suggestions for SBL to make this wallet absolutely perfect in every way, it definitely deserves 5 starts as it is. Here is what I would suggest to improve the wallet: 1. Provide a very light "natural" aniline dye option, so that the lustrous patina can start from as blank a slate as possible. 2. Offer a 100% vegetable-tanned belting leather option. Hartmann used to offer this awesome leather, but their new "belting leather" isn't near as good as their older wallets from years ago. By offering this ultra-premium leather, SBL would fulfill the needs of wallet snobs like me around the world. 3. Offer 2 card slots in each of the 4 sections of the wallet with the top card slot slightly offset from the slot beneath it to make removing cards easier. There is no need for the large pockets the SBL wallet (due to the large cash compartment), so adding extra slots for cards wouldn't make the wallet any thicker. 4. Add a panel in the cash compartment that divides it into top and bottom halves. The 2nd section would only go down half way allowing the user to put cash/checks in the bottom of the wallet and other cash/checks in the 2nd compartment in the top half in order to evenly distribute the thickness between the top and bottom. Make these enhancements and I'll buy 50 of them for gifts and to ensure I have them for the rest of my life and my grandkids' lives! Thank you SBL for providing the best quality workmanship found anywhere. I'll be a customer for many years to come.

I have bought and used the i.d. wallet, large, medium, and small bi-fold. The quality of the leather is outstanding! After using each wallet for a year I have decided That my small tobacco brown bi-fold is "my" wallet. The size and color is amazing and it definitely gets better with age. I have gifted my small black bi-fold to my 16 year old son who has been using the wallet for 2 years and he loves it! I also gave my coffee brown i.d. wallet to my 19 year old daughter and she loves it as well! I use my other large and medium coffee brown bi-folds for credit cards and business cards that I don't need to carry everyday. My cousin saw our wallets and immediately bought a large and medium bi-fold in carbon black. I just purchased a black tow belt for work since I need a sturdy belt for my holster...can't wait!

This is for the large size: I live somewhere rugged where the power goes out often and cash is always a necessity. The salt water wore through other wallets too fast. This leather wallet is fantastic in its ability to distribute the items evenly across my back pocket so don't get Costanza syndrome. I carry appx 7 cards spread out through the 4 pockets, and a stack of cash as my emergency fund. It has grown buttery soft and the scuff marks add to its character. I've had more comments and questions about this wallet than any other before. It is a bit over-built, but thats my style (i also carry a ZT0300 daily).
