Tan full grain leather briefcase by Saddleback.

Functionality of a Leather Briefcase Backpack

Most of our leather briefcases convert into backpacks, including this one. Run the adjustable shoulder strap through the o-ring on the back of the briefcase, and clip it to the d-rings on the bottom. Now your hands are free to carry more luggage through the airport. This leather briefcase has a false bottom to hide your passport, spare cash, and other secret things. The d-rings are great for strapping on blankets, jackets, and wet sandals. And the main strap has a hole at the very tip, just in case you overstuff your bag or want to put an umbrella under the flap. The two front pockets actually have hidden pockets behind them too.

Materials in Our Leather Briefcases

This leather briefcase is made of full grain leather, which is the strongest there is. And then, we line the leather with pigskin, which is more durable than cow skin. Our thread is some of the best in the world. The strong industrial marine-grade polyester thread doesn't deteriorate like Nylon when the sun touches it. Our custom hardware is 316 Stainless Steel which means our clasps can hold up to a 750 lb. bag of cats. It's the metal of choice for when your life depends on it.

High quality leather briefcase.

All of Our Bags Use Full Grain Leather

We only use full grain leather. Sure, we pay a higher price to purchase full grain leather to make our bags. And we pay more by using traditional craftsmanship. To us, these are essentials to offering a leather briefcase with a 100 year warranty. Leather is like a roof. First, there is plywood, tar paper, and then shingles. The grain is like shingles. It's the toughest and most water-resistant part of the leather. A lot of companies shave off that grain to get rid of scars or blemishes so they can use more of the hide, but by doing so, they get rid of the toughest part. We don't do that.

Leather Briefcases Lined with Pigskin

Did you know pigskin is actually stronger than cowhide? It is, and that's what we line our leather briefcases with. Not only is it stronger, but it is also more flexible and has a nice feel. We could have left it with just thick full grain leather, but we wanted to give you the best of the best. By using both, you get the best for the inside and the outside of this large leather briefcase.

The Hardware in our Leather Briefcases

The hardware on this backpack briefcase is all 316 Surgical Grade Stainless Steel. That's the good stuff. The kind that doesn't corrode, pit, or rust like other metals. It's the best for when your life depends on it, and it's what we use because your life could depend on this briefcase (ya never know, right?).

Polyester, Great for Strong Thread in Leather Bags, but Not Great for Underwear

Polyester is awful for underwear or sheets, but it is the best for thread. We found the strongest polyester thread and used it in our leather bags. It's a marine-grade, UV resistent polyester thread that doesn't deteriorate when sun hits it.

Internal Pockets

Two small internal pockets are located in the main compartment, which is great for holding things such as pens, pencils, and other things that you might put in small pockets. The internal compartment is split into two main areas with a large capacity to hold a large laptop or two. So you can fit that huge 17" laptop in here without a problem.

External Pockets that Mean Business

The two front pockets on this briefcase are large and ideal for holding chargers and cables, passports and travel docs, phones, glasses, and a multitool. And behind each external pocket, you've got a hidden pocket. These pockets are great for things you might access more often, such as a cell phone or a USB hub, depending on how secure you need it to be and your own packing method.

Hidden Compartment in this Leather Briefcase

Yes, this briefcase has a hidden compartment that is large enough to fit a passport. It is located on the bottom of the leather bag and can be easily accessed by lifting a strip of leather. You will see it right away. The false bottom is great for hiding things such as money, your passport, or anything else you might not want anyone to find.

Emergency Cigar Holder

When I tell you we thought of everything, we did. In between the front pockets is a pocket that is good for carrying a cigar, a flashlight, pens or pencils, or Epi pens.

Leather briefcase with removable shoulder strap.

Removable Shoulder Straps

Not everyone wants a shoulder strap; they might prefer the hand strap or the backpack feature, so we made it removable. The durable shoulder strap is also made of full grain leather, just like our leather bags, and has the same quality stainless steel hardware.

Great for Traveling

It is also functional as a great carry-on for short trips or long trips. You can fit your large laptop and maybe even a change of clothes and other gear. For example, you might not want to put your suit jacket inside, but an extra t-shirt and shorts to wear. The Front Pocket Leather Briefcase fits nicely under seats on the airplane.

I'm "Leatherbound" From City to Ranch!

I went for the large "Front Pocket Briefcase" in tobacco after weeks of researching Saddleback Leather's website, and watching every YouTube video review I could find. Like many of you, I was torn between several models. My research included: "Thin Front Pocket Briefcase," "Thin Briefcase," and the "Classic Briefcase" models. I already have a thin ballistic nylon briefcase that I have used for years, and I wanted something a smidge larger, but not so large that I would be tempted to pack clothing into it. More on that in a minute. In the end, I chose this one because it had: - Two good-size interior chambers to hold any laptop I may use, along with chargers, notebooks etc. - Pockets on both sides for a water bottle or other accessory that's easy to access quickly. - Two front pockets for packing things without eating up the interior space. - Rear thin pocket that is open and easy to access quickly. I already have a "Waterbag" duffel in tobacco that is a medium carry-on size for packing clothing. With a folding compact luggage cart, I travel with both of these with ease. It's a great pair of products to get me through a business week in the city, traveling through airports and other cities, and then out to the ranch for enjoying the weekends. I absolutely love both of these beautiful and tough leather products that serve me well no matter my location.

    Best Christmas Present this Year

I first discovered Saddleback Leather about three years ago when I was in the market for a leather wallet. I'd previously gotten a new wallet every year and just kind of accepted that as the norm. While I was shopping online for a new wallet at that time, Saddleback Leather caught my eye. I decided to get a Saddleback bi-fold wallet and have loved it for three years now. I bought my dad and brother-in-law the same wallet the next Christmas, and they're both still using it as well. Since I've gotten the wallet I've been pretty obsessed with the idea of getting a Saddleback briefcase one day. The price, as I'm sure it is for many, was the factor barring me from purchasing it. I instead settled on a $100 Samsonite briefcase that got pretty beat up over the course of three years working at my current job. The difference between a Samsonite bag and a Saddleback bag is the Samsonite bag looked worse as it wore down with thread hanging out and black paint rubbing off to expose gray fabric, while Saddleback leather just gets better looking and feeling over time. My dad loves his Saddleback wallet and belt and knew that I wanted one of the briefcases, so he decided to get me a Saddleback bag for Christmas. I felt bad that he was spending so much on it, but I got the vibe that it was something he really wanted to get me so I went ahead with it. The next step was choosing which bag was right for me. I watched an embarrassing number of YouTube reviews, all of which were very positive, for the different Saddleback briefcase models. I landed on the Large Front Pocket Briefcase in Dark Coffee Brown mainly because I like have a couple of extra pockets in the front. I also thought it looks a bit nicer and less bulky than the classic briefcase. I went with Dark Coffee Brown because it looks like with my other favorite color (Tobacco Brown) it's kind of a crap shoot right now whether you'll end up with the very light brown (I don't like) or the darker light brown (which I love). The Dark Coffee Brown is a great color for the office as well as play, so I like that about it as well. I got my briefcase for Christmas this year and LOVE it. You know how you build something up in your head sometimes and then finally get it and it's disappointing? That's not how I felt about my bag at all. It smells amazing, looks great, and I can already tell it will only get cooler looking over time. If this bag is anywhere near your price range I wholeheartedly recommend getting it. It was a bit much for my price range, but luckily my dad is awesome and decided to get it for me. I've gotten compliments on the bag almost every day since I started bringing it to work, which is pretty incredible when you think about it. Everybody has briefcases or bags and this one stands out enough for people to go out of their way to make remarks about it. The only negative I can think of are that the bag is pretty heavy, but I've gotten used to it already. It's a product of the thick high quality leather it's made out of. I can't wait to see how it ages take it with me on whatever future journeys I might end up embarking on. If it's at all a possibility for you, get this bag or at least some kind of Saddleback bag!

Buy it now! You'll understand when you own it.

I had buyer's remorse when I first bought this. Almost $600 for a briefcase!!! A year later, numerous trips for both personal and business - I can't live without it. I got this bad-boy in medium. Perfect size in my opinion - can easily pack it for an overnight trip. Day-to-day use it will hold practically everything you need. I've carried my laptop, DSLR camera and a couple lenses, used it in "back-pack" mode (pretty comfortable actually). You will get compliments on it - men & women. This thing is pretty indestructible - the hardware is solid and the leather is so thick, the interior of this bag is of better quality than the exterior of other leather bags. Oh, the buyer's remorse goes away once you open the box and smell the leather and see the quality of what you purchased.

    Front Pocket Briefcase

I just received my Front Pocket Briefcase and I love it! I've stuffed all my crap in it and it fits fine. It also looks great even though it didn't have any interesting imperfections. I can't wait to take it on it's first trip and show it off.

    The shiznitz!

I've been through 7 computer bags or so and got tired of fighting through the search for another bag that would do what I wanted. I figured I could buy this one and at least be able to cash in on the warranty if anything happened and not have to get familiar with a different bag. Well, lemme tell ya, this bag gets better with age man! Compliments everywhere I go and takes a beating with no complaints. I will never have or need another computer bag! Its worth every penny.
