Read MoreThis leather wallet was built with what is called full grain leather. The grain is the most durable part of the hide and it's basically like the shingles of a roof. It ages richly and is very water resistant. But most designers or manufacturers are told to save as much money as possible making their wallets and so need to use every inch of the leather hide. Instead of cutting around the scars and blemishes and throwing 25% of the leather into the trash, the tannery shaves off the top layer with all of the scars and slight imperfections so they can use almost 100% of the hide to make leather wallets. The problem is that they shave off the shingles of your house; the toughest part of the hide. And that's why you're looking for the best leather wallet now. They become junk and fall apart in a short time (5 - 10 years).
---As if our leather wasn't enough, we line our wallets with pigskin, which is tougher than the cow leather. It's how we can offer a 100-year Warranty. And then we sew it with our special German marine grade polyester thread. It's what they sew parachutes and ship sails with. If a life depends on the seams not falling apart, they use the same thread. In between the leather and pigskin is a thin layer of Radio Frequency ID (RFID) blocking material to stop thieves from scanning your wallet in a crowd and stealing your ID off of the credit cards. It happens all the time. Google it.
I just received the Large Tobacco Bifold and, since I'm a Saddleback veteran, I can review it immediately (I know how it will hold up!). First let me say that I was a little nervous about ordering this color because everything else I have is Chestnut (yes, I pretty much match Dave's description of the Chestnut personality) and some of the comments I had seen online regarding leather quality. I didn't see any other reviews on the Saddleback site to answer my questions but I liked what I saw and ordered anyway. I'm so glad I did because the negative postings I'd seen are rubbish. The original tobacco brown was a little light for me, and had a little fuzz on it (changed color depending on which way you stroked it). The "new" tobacco has a smooth finish more like the chestnut and is a "medium brown" color that I know will be gorgeous with use. As to the rumor that Dave had lowered quality, I see no such evidence on any of the 3 pieces in my order. I actually have an unused chestnut large bifold that I purchased about 18-24 months ago (just in case they stopped making them) and the thickness and feel is exactly the same. The absolute only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is they are no longer putting the inner "hidden flap" or pigskin lining on the inner part of the billfold section, which I miss. If you weren't expecting it, you'd never know and would be perfectly happy, as I in fact am.

Fine product. Seams are a little tough on clothes. Chewed through a pair of Carhartts in a few months. But at least it'll last for years. Had to stuff all my cards vertically in the back slot. It was even stiffer using the horizontal card slots. .

This is the best wallet that I have ever owned. I highly recommend this wallet to anyone who is looking for their next wallet. I've had the LG Bifold Wallet a little over a year now, and I couldn't be more satisfied.

I've had the large version constantly in my pocket for around 4 years now, and it is hands down the best wallet I've ever had. First, it is very practical. I can carry everything from cards to bills to coins to receipts to... you name it, as long as it isn't bigger than the wallet I'll put it in. In all this time the leather has gone a bit softer (which is nice), and apart from that it doesn't have any sign of giving in any soon. It's still as sturdy as the day I got it. I will probably keep this for a very, very long time. It is a bit thick, so be aware of that, but I don't mind it at all.

I have been looking around on this site of a while now and watching all of the videos to get a idea of the craftsmanship. I have a local guy who does wonderful leather work but I decided to buy Dave's wallet. Very impressed. The color is beautiful, the stitching it doubled back on , the feel and smell is just awesome. I I'll buy more, in fact, I want a large Water Bag! It's almost the perfect design!
